IV.SMART METERS INSTALLATION DISCUSSION
ComEd is preparing to install Smart Meters starting in November 2014 and continuing
throughout next year. Smart meters are digital electric meters that collect energy-usage
information and securely send it to ComEd.Smart meters are a key part of ComEd’s effort
to modernize the electric system and provide customers with better service and a stronger,
more reliable electric system.ComEd plans to install approximately 4 million smart meters
in all homes and businesses across its northern Illinois service territory by 2018. ComEd
will notify residents in advance when it plans to install smart meters on individual services
within the community.
ComEd representatives will be present to answer any questions and illustrate the
communication materials that will be provided to residents as the installation process
occurs.
V. INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY STORAGE DISCUSSION
During a discussion among the Village Board and staff at a September 16 Village Board
meeting regarding the purchase of additional digital storage devices a number of Board
members requested a follow up discussion regarding the future of data storage needs. The
IT Director has prepared a summary memorandum that in included in the packet which
should answer the majority of the questions that were raised duringthe meeting. The data
storage needs of the Village will continue to grow as the transition from paper to electronic
for longer term storage. This transition will allow quicker and more complete document
searches. In order to maintain data integrity the IT Division maintains a data replication
process for fail over and disaster recovery in case such a need arises.
The IT Director will be present to facilitate a discussion and answer any questions regarding
the future of data storage and how the Village will continue to leverage technology within
budget limits.
