CC Minutes 07/09/2014 CENTENNIAL COMMISSION REGULAR MEETING Meeting Location: Meeting Date and Time: rd Village Hall – 3 floor Executive Conference Room July 9, 2014 50 South Emerson Street 3:00 p.m. Mount Prospect, Illinois 60056 I. CALL TO ORDER II ROLL CALL Members present: Sharon Anderson, Alexander Bertolucci Linda Hoefert, Elaine Hundreiser, Jean Murphy, Michaele Skowron, Jessica Thunberg, Christy Watychowicz, and John Zulaski. 3:12 PM Linda Hoefert arrived. Members absent: Gerald “Skip” Farley, Janice Farley, & Leo Floros, Ex-officio members present: Mike Janonis, Arlene Juracek and Marianthi Thanopoulos Ex-officio members absent: III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Approval of the May 7, 2014 minutes. Zulaski moved. Hundreiser Seconded. Motion passed. Approval of the June 3, 2014 minutes. Anderson moved. Hundreiser Seconded. Motion passed. IV. CITIZENS TO BE HEARD NONE V. OLD BUSINESS A. Report: Communications subcommittee – Zulaski, Thunberg, and Thanopoulos Committee met on June 19, 2014. Their recommendation is a separate website linked to Village Website. Village Intern from France will work w/Thanopoulos on Centennial website from Sept thru Dec 2014 to coordinate collection of data. B. Logo discussion and vote - Alex Bertolucci, Jessica Thunberg, Jean Murphy After much discussion, the commission agreed to one of the samples prepared by Tim Buelow, Harper Community College student. The Sample is “3.1” with a few changes. 1) consistent font (i.e. the font used for “100 years”). 2) white space at each corner of the square. 3) use of “Celebrate” – not “Centennial.” 4) The creator Tim Buelow will be asked to come back with logo reflecting Commission’s requests. The LOGO adoption will be on the next meeting’s agenda, September 3, 2014. C. Report: Overview of what we have chosen to do so far – by category – Jean Murphy See separate document prepared by Murphy. Clarification of some items on Murphy’s overview. 1) Purple & white lights will be installed in Dec 2016 and stay on trees until Feb 2017. 2) Culminating event will be House Walk of Dec 2017 and/or New Year’s Eve celebration, 2017. 3) Future city competition for middle & high school students: topic might be solving municipal problems. 4) Oral History/ Art Display that is interactive. D. Report: City sticker year-by-year discussion (2015-2018) – Jean Murphy, Sharon Anderson 2015 3 Park Districts are celebrating anniversaries. 5 Park districts serve MP citizens. Sticker will recognize all five park districts. 2016 Central School 2017 Village 2018 Library E. Report: Possible outdoor interfaith service – Leo Floros Floros absent. Deferred item to next meeting. VI. NEW BUSINESS A. Projected costs for various events/initiatives/videotaping from members for budgeting 1. Historical Society & Library are not requesting budget. st 2. 1 vendor Vision Internet: If Village upgrades website, centennial site will cost $9.8K + $2K for responsive design. As much as $14.8K (if village does not upgrade). nd 3. 2 vendor Ravenswood. If Village upgrades website, centennial site will be $5K + $100 maintenance per month for 36 months = $8.6K. Responsive design. Budget of $10K is suggested by commission. Ravenswood also proposed working as an hourly consultant to develop talking points for soliciting sponsors. Skip Farley and Floros may use talking points in contacting potential sponsors. Ravenswood would seek sponsors for a fee. (see notes on yellow sheet). th B. Fund-raising plans/possibilities including sale of left-over 75 anniversary silver coins C. Budget ( See Budget handouts with comments and estimates from Murphy). VII. OTHER BUSINESS – member roundtable – additional ideas? Comments? a. Signs for Centennial Garden outside Village Hall. See handouts. After discussion of sandblasting knee wall & installing brass plaques, it was decided to investigate 1 – use of TIF funds for permanent signs (not brass) 2 - 5 signs to identify first four families w/names & dates of arrival and larger sign for village history 3 – approach families to request support for signs. 4 – place signs in front of village hall in flower beds b. Recognition of first baby in 2017 c. Seal of State for Articles of Incorporation d. Large Plaque reproduced on back of stock certificates e. Use various type fonts for Name on Posters f. Location for STORE: commemorative items to be sold. Randhurst? Historical Society house? th g. 62 silver coins @ 1 Troy Ounce from 75 Anniversary are still available. Each coin is approximately $20. h. Informational meeting for village clubs and organizations: Anderson is coordinating. Mid Sept – press release Mid Oct – meeting at Village Hall VIII. NEXT MEETING September 3, 2014 – 3:00 p.m. IX. ADJOURN: Skowron moved to adjourn at 5:20 pm. Thunberg seconded.
