APPROVAL OF MINUTES
March 5, 2014 Meeting Minutes. Correction: John Zulaski was present. Skip Farley moved. Murphy
Seconded. Motion approved.

OLD BUSINESS
A. Report: Communications subcommittee – Zulaski, Thunberg, and Thanopoulos.
Zulaski reported.
Historical Society & Mt. Prospect Public Library will help subcommittee. Subcommittee is putting social
media back on discussion w/caveat it has to be kept up to date. Citizens’ photo gallery is currently put on
hold. Historical Society will put out a call for historical photos for their archives.
GOAL – Beta Website to launch spring 2015 (12 months from now). Anniversary committee will edit.
GOAL – Marianthi will check on cost of new website w/block party creator.

Oral History (apprx 50 at the library)-Ann Shaughnessy will work on it. Zulaski will ask for help in
selecting.
Selective # of oral histories to be used as background for photos.
15 recent oral histories are at cable network (video/audio)
Quotes & photos suggested in a traveling exhibition.
Library is a good location. Exhibition at Village Hall on small monitor.

Volunteer Openings will be posted. Volunteers should be limited to Commission activities.

Teacher curriculum – Historical Society has it long and well established. Already existing.
Commission members page – what does it mean to them? (put on hold)
Celebrities-MP Historical Society has list of celebrities.
B. Report: Harper College logo progress – Bertolucci, Thunberg, and Murphy
Harper offered 12 choices. Sub Com limited to 3. Harper is coloring them. They will design options to
present to group. Meeting w/Harper is at Village Hall on Tues, June 3 at 4:00 pm.
C. Report: Information from Geneva about fire hydrant painting – Watychowicz
Genera, IL & others have rules about steps for applying. Suggestion to approach ACE, Home Depot,
Menards, True Value RE sponsoring contest. May of 2016 for application. Fall of 2016 starting
painting. Two weeks or a month for painting. A stick next to hydrant for authorizing. Metal stick for
identifying hydrants w/number. Flag on stick. Watychowicz will be contact w/email. After discussion
Commission decided that “First Come First Served” would determine claim to painting a particular
hydrant.
D. Report: Railroad anniversary – Murphy
Juracek & Murphy asked Union Pacific Railway about acquiring a vintage train. A siding is needed.
Closest siding is near Mariano’s Grocery Store, Arlington Heights. Committee decided distance was not
close enough to pursue.
E. Report: City sticker year-by-year proposal (2015-2018) – Murphy
2015 Two park districts will be celebrating anniverseries. MP & River Trail. Murphy will check
w/Prospect Heights & Des Plaines Park Districts.

NEW BUSINESS
A. Introduction of new member
Elaine Hundrieser is a newly appointed member, representing Randhurst Village. Randhurst is making
space available for community activities: e.g., original photos for display.
B. Finish working through white board ideas from November meeting – 2017 only (see separate
document)
C. Committee member sign-up for various events/activities in preparation for budgeting

OTHER BUSINESS – member roundtable
Water tower will be painted w/ anniversary date of 1917. Later on a wrap will be designed to highlight
centennial.
