Chairperson Skowron called the meeting to order at 5:31 p.m.
Roll Call: Michaele Skowron, Chairperson
Mark Busse, Commissioner
James Powers, Commissioner
Absent: Charles Bennett, Commissioner
Also Present: John Malcolm, Fire Chief
Michael Semkiu, Chief of Police
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Deferred to the next meeting for approval.

No one in attendance.
FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATE
Chief Malcolm discussed the background oral interviews scheduled for May 5 th and 6 The Chief
reported calls were made to 26 candidates in order to schedule 16 for the interviews. Board members for
the interview panel will be Chairperson Skowron, Commissioner M. Busse and Commissioner Powers.
Chief Malcolm discussed the swearing -in of a new firefighter /paramedic on Monday, April 21, 2014.
POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATE
Chief Semkiu reported that at the beginning of the year the department was one over the authorized
strength of 83 because of an anticipatory hire. Due to retirements and one resignation, we had two
openings and these openings were filled by candidates #5 and #6 on the current Police Officer Eligibility
List. The two officers started at the Suburban Law Enforcement Academy (SLEA) on March 31, 2014.
Since the last meeting, three officers have tendered their retirement notice and others will be forthcoming.
Once the current list is approved and with the Board's concurrence, the top five candidates will receive a
conditional officer.
SERGEANTS PROMOTIONAL PROCESS DISCUSSION AND APPROVAL OF THE READING LIST
Chief Semkiu reported his office has received fourteen applications as of today's date and the deadline is
Friday, April 11, 2014. Further, he has contacted 1/0 Solutions regarding the status of the promotional
process.
Chairperson Skowron asked for a motion to go into closed session.
CLOSED SESSION
A motion was made by Commissioner Powers and seconded by Commissioner M. Busse to go into
Closed Session at 5:48 p.m. under Personnel 5 ILCS 120/2 (c) (1) - The appointment, employment,
compensation, discipline, performance, or dismissal of specific employees of the public body, including
hearing testimony on a complaint lodged against an employee to determine its validity, and to approve
closed session minutes.
Roll Call: Ayes: M. Busse, Powers, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried
The Board returned to open session at 5:49 p.m. with everyone from the previous session.

APPROVAL OF POLICE OFFICER ELIGIBILITY LIST II
Chairperson Skowron asked for a motion to approve the Police Officer Eligibility List II.
A motion was made by Commissioner M. Busse and seconded by Commissioner Powers.
Voice Vote: Ayes: M. Busse, Powers, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried
Chairperson Skowron asked for a motion to indicate to the individuals who have asked for special testing
for the police sergeants exam that the Board wants to follow the calendar they have set.
A motion was made by Commissioner M. Busse and seconded by Commissioner Powers.
Voice Vote: Ayes: M. Busse, Powers, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried
Chairperson Skowron asked for a motion to respond to the individual requesting another pass.
A motion was made by Commissioner Powers and seconded by Commissioner M. Busse that the Board
has decided not to vary from the testing process.
Voice Vote: Ayes: M. Busse, Powers, Skowron Nays: None Motion Carried
OTHER BUSINESS
None
With no further business, a motion was made by Commissioner Powers and seconded by Commissioner
M. Busse to adjourn the meeting at 6:20 p.m.
