A. MEMBERSHIP RECRUITMENT
• ALICEN SUGGESTED TO PUT A MESSAGE ON SCHOOL ANOUNCEMENTS OR IN
THE OFFICE. ALICEN AND A/A WALPOLE SUGGESTED SENDING FLYERS TO
SCHOOLS WITH INFORMATION ABOUT THE MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH
COMMISSION. THE OBJECT OF THE FLIERS IS TO LET TEENS KNOW THEY HAVE
A VOICE IN THE COMMUNITY AS WELL AS ATTRACT NEW MEMBERS. A/A
SCHEIN ENCOURAGES PEOPLE TO INVITE FRIENDS /CLASSMATES TO ATTEND
MEETINGS. PATRICK TO GET LISTING OF POSSIBLE NEW MEMBERS FROM
RIVER TRAILS PRINCIPAL.
B. SCHOOL LISTINGS
ADDRESSES OF SCHOOLS IN MOUNT PROSPECT WERE PUT ON A LIST. EACH
PERSON FROM THE COMMISSION WILL BE IN CHARGE OF A SCHOOL. THAT
WAY THE COMMISSION WILL KNOW HOW TO CONTACT THE SCHOOLS EASILY.
C. YOUTHVIEW
ALICEN TO CONTACT MR. CLOWES ON NEXT DATE. SEPTEMBER 15
YOUTHVIEW FEATURED THE MER ROCK BAND. THE MER ROCK BAND ARE
MUSICIANS FROM MOUNT PROSPECT.
D. VOICE MAIL
THE NEW NUMBER OF THE VOICE MAIL IS 818 -5250. THE VOICE MAIL CAN BE
USED TO TELL MEMBERS IF THE MEETING IS ON OR OFF.
NEW BUSINESS
A. YOUTH DAY
THE COMMISSION WANTS TO SPONSOR A YOUTH FORUM WITH POSSIBLY A
BAND, FASHION SHOW, RAFFLE, OR OTHER ENTERTAINMENT AS A WAY TO
REACH THE YOUTH OF MOUNT PROSPECT. A/A BUSSE SUGGESTED
COMBINING THE YOUTH FORUM WITH TAP MOUNT PROSPECT AND WILL
SUGGEST THIS AT THE NEXT TAP MEETING. IT WAS ALSO SUGGESTED TO
COMBINE THE YOUTH FORUM WITH THE POLICE, PROM, DUI, OR ART SHOWS.
THE RANDHURST STORES COULD POSSIBLY DONATE PRIZES FOR THE RAFFLE.
THIS EVENT WOULD MOSTLY TARGET JR. HIGH STUDENTS. THIS WOULD BE A
GREAT WAY TO ATTRACT MEMBERS.
B. BUDGET AND T- SHIRTS
A/A LOHRSTORFER SUGGESTED ASKING FOR MONEY IN THE COMMISSION'S
BUDGET FOR NEW SHIRTS AND TO MAKE PENS AND KEY CHAINS FOR
MEMBERS. ALSO THE BUDGET WOULD COVER PRINTING AND MAILING
COSTS.
C. YOUTHVIEW SHOW AND OFFICER FRIENDLY
A/A SCHEIN SUGGESTED RUNNING A BANNER ON YOUTHVIEW WITH NEXT
YOUTH COMMISSION DATE AND THE COMMISSION HOT LINE NUMBER.
POSSIBLY OFFICER FRIENDLY COULD BE ON YOUTHVIEW, AT YOUTH DAY,
ETC. TO GIVE THE TEENS SAFETY TIPS. BRENT TO CALL OFFICER ROSCOP TO
INVITE HIM TO THE COMMISSION'S NEXT MEETING.
D. NEW MEETING TIMES
THE COMMISSION DISCUSSED NEW MEETING TIMES, AND ALICEN WILL CALL
MISSING MEMBERS TO SEE WHEN THEY CAN MAKE THE MEETINGS. THE
COMMISSION DECIDED ON KEEPING CURRENT MEETING TIME (1
WEDNESDAY OF EVERY MONTH) FOR THE REST OF THE 1999 YEAR-
E. YOUTH COMMISSION WEBSITE
THE COMMISSION TALKED ABOUT MAKING THEIR OWN WEBSITE. ALICEN TO
TALK TO MAURA, THE PUBLIC RELATIONS DIRECTOR.
F. PAMPHLET
A/A WALPOSE SUGGESTED THAT MAKING A PAMPHLET WITH THE
COMMISSION'S GOAL, CRITERIA FOR MEMBERSHIP, AND LOGO WITH IT
SHOULD BE A PRIORITY FOR THE COMMISSION. NEXT MEETING A ROUGH
DRAFT WILL BE MADE.
G. ADDRESS RECORD
THE ADDRESS RECORD FOR THE COMMISSION IS NOW UPDATED WITH E -MAIL
ADDRESSES AND WILL BE READY FOR THE NEXT MEETING.
H. MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY
MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY IS OCTOBER 23. PROSPECT AND ROLLING
MEADOWS DO NOT HAVE ACTIVITIES PLANNED. NEXT YEAR THE
COMMISSION WILL BE INVOLVED IN MAKE A DIFFERENCE DAY. FOR
EXAMPLE, THE FOOD PANTRY IS ALWAYS LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS.
I. SHINING STAR BANOUET
THE SHINING STAR BANQUET RECOGNIZES PEOPLE IN THE COMMUNITY. THE
COST IS THIRTY DOLLARS PER TICKET. ALICEN TO CONTACT SPECIAL EVENTS
COMMISSION TO SEE IF THE COMMISSION MEMBERS COULD GET A DISCOUNT.
