APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION: (TO APPROVE MINUTES FROM 9 NOVEMBER 99) 1ST - SLESICKI 2ND _ DELAHANTY UNANIMOUS ANNOUNCEMENTS A. NEW MEMBERS CHAIRMAN ALICEN PRIKKEL WELCOMED NEW MEMBERS, DEVIN SLESICKI, BRENT BUSSE, JENNIFER KIDD, NICOLE SHUDY AND ALEXANDRA SOLAK ALONG WITH GUEST MEGAN JAHRLING. B. OFFICER FRIENDLY - BILL ROSCOP OFFICER BILL ROSCOP'S PRESENTATION FOCUSED ON THE THREE ISSUES HE FEELS ARE OF THE GREATEST CONCERN REGARDING THE YOUTH OF MOUNT PROSPECT: • UNDERAGE DRINKING; • CIGARETTE SALES TO YOUTH • INTER -NET EDUCATION ADDITIONAL AREAS OF CONCERN OFFICER ROSCOP SPOKE OF WAS CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY WHERE YOUTHS ARE 'TAGGING' PROPERTY WITH GRAFFITI AND DAMAGING MAILBOXES. A/A NAGEL SAID THAT THROUGH PEER JURY SHE SEES QUITE A BIT OF RETAIL THEFT. PARENTAL RESPONSIBILITY WAS DISCUSSED. OFFICER ROSCOP ALSO SAID THAT HE WOULD BE MORE THAN WILLING TO ASSIST THE COMMISSION WITH A RANDHURST EVENT AND SUGGESTED THAT THE COMMISSION THINK OF HAVING A BOOTH AT THE CRIME PREVENTION SHOW HELD IN OCTOBER AND THE FIRE SAFETY SHOW HELD IN MAY. OFFICER ROSCOP FEELS THAT THE YOUTH COMMISSION CAN HELP TO EDUCATION THE YOUTH IN THE VILLAGE. BILL SUGGESTED THAT THE COMMISSION PUT TOGETHER A PLAN, SOME DATES AND AT THAT TIME HE WILL INTRODUCE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE COMMISSION TO RANDHURST CORPORATION EXECUTIVES. OLD BUSINESS A UPDATED SCHOOL LISTING ADDITIONS AND CORRECTIONS WERE MADE. B. YOUTH VIEW IDEAS THE TOPICS THAT OFFICER ROSCOP MENTIONED SHOULD BE USED IN AN UPCOMING TAPING. C. YOUTH FORUM AN ATTEMPT TO FORM A COMMITTEE WAS TABLED AT THIS TIME. TARGET MONTHS MENTIONED WERE MARCH, APRIL, MAY. A/A LOHRSTORFER SUGGESTED CONTACTING FATHER SMYTH FROM MARYVILLE ACADEMY. PERHAPS WITH HIS CONTACTS WE COULD HAVE A 'PERSONALITY" TO ATTRACT ATTENDANCE AT A FORUM. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT THE COMMISSION CONTACT SURROUNDING TOWN FOR INFORMATION ON THEIR YOUTH COMMISSIONS. D. BUDGET 1. T- SHIRTS SECRETARY SHEILA MCCARTHY TO CHECK ON COLOR AVAILABILITY AND PRICES FOR NEXT MONTH'S MEETING. LOGO SUGGESTIONS WERE PRESENTED TO THE COMMISSION. NO FINAL DECISION MADE AT THIS TIME. 2. POSTAGE RECEIPTS FOR EXPENSES MUST BE KEPT. THE FIRST YEAR WILL GIVE THE COMMISSION A GUIDELINE FOR UPCOMING BUDGETS. 3. PRINTING KEEP TRACK OF ALL PRINTING OF PAMPHLETS. BUDGET WILL BE COMING UP FOR APPROVAL NEXT MONTH. E. NEW MEETING TIMES NEXT MONTH'S MEETING WILL BE HELD ON MONDAY, 10 JANUARY 99 AT PROSPECT HIGH SCHOOL'S COMMUNITY ROOM. CHAIRMAN PRIKKEL IS UNABLE TO ATTEND ON A TUESDAY. FEBRUARY'S MEETING WILL BE MONDAY, 7 FEBRUARY 99 AND BACK AT THE PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING IN THE TRAINING ROOM. F. WEBSITE ALICEN TO GET TOGETHER WITH MAURA AND WORK WITH PATRICK AND BRENT. G. PAMPHLET THERE WAS DISCUSSION ON WHERE WRITTEN MATERIAL SHOULD BE PLACED, I.E., YMCA, STORES, ETC. SEVERAL MEMBERS VOLUNTEERED TO DRAFT AN ARTICLE AND DISCUSS IT AT NEXT MONTH'S MEETING. IT WAS DECIDED TO HOLD OFF UNTIL AFTER THE HOLIDAYS. IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT A SPANISH PAMPHLET ALSO BE PRINTED. H. SHINING STAR BANQUET A/A BUSSE WILL MAKE RESERVATIONS FOR A TABLE OF 10. AT THIS TIME, THERE ARE THREE DEFINITE RESERVATIONS. OTHER MEMBERS TO CHECK ON WHETHER THEIR SCHOOL WILL PAY FOR THEIR TICKETS. NEW BUSINESS A. CHRISTMAS PROJECTS A/A NAGEL SUGGESTED THE EUCLID SCHOOL FOOD PANTRY GIVE -A -WAY THAT WILL BE HELD 15 DECEMBER 99 AS AN ACTIVITY. THE ANNUAL TOYS -FOR -KIDS IS CHRISTMAS TIME ACTIVITY THAT IS ALWAYS IN NEED OF VOLUNTEERS. TOYS -FOR -KIDS IS COORDINATED THROUGH THE FIRE DEPARTMENT. B. NEW YOUTH ISSUES A/A LOHRSTORFER SUGGESTED GETTING INVOLVED IN THE AESTHETICS OF THE VILLAGE'S ENTRANCE BY PLANTING FLOWERS. C. HOLIDAY CANDY THE CANDY WAS DISTRIBUTED TO MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION WHICH WAS SENT BY THE MAYOR AND THE VILLAGE BOARD. MEETING ADJOURNED: 9:31 P.M. :sam
