Iic eP e[ - dttor Ladies and Gentlemen: In accordance with the Illinois Open Meeting Law, we are submitting a written request for notice of meetings, covering the calendar year of 2001. As you know, this law applies to "all meetings of any legislative, executive, administrative or advisory bodies of the state, counties, townships, cities, villages, incorporated towns, school districts and other municipal corporations, boards, bureaus, committees or commissions of this state." Although executive sessions may be conducted in six clearly defined categories, these sessions are still subject to the Open Meetings Act, including the provisions requiring notice. The law provides that news media applying for notification be supplied with a schedule of regular meetings, including times, dates and places of such meetings. It further requires that you provide us specific notice of any special meetings or rescheduled regular meetings; such notice is to be given at least 48 hours before the meeting is convened and include an agenda. As you are undoubtedly aware, in the event a change is made in the regular schedule of meetings, the law requires you publish a notice at least 10 days before the new date, in a newspaper of general circulation in this area. Our request for meeting notices covers not only the body itself but any committees, subcommittees, subsidiary bodies or commissions responsible to it or created by it. Notices should be sent to: Your cooperation is appreciated. Sincerely, JL /ne Assistant Managing Editor /Local News Paddock Publications, Inc.
