APPROVAL OF MINUTES MOTION: TO APPROVE MINUTES FROM JULY 00 MEETING 1 ST KIM UNGER 2 ND JAMES RUETSCHE UNANIMOUS MOTION: TO APPROVE MINUTES FROM 4 OCTOBER 00 MEETING AMEND: NICOLE BYRNE CALLED MEETING TO ORDER. MR. CLOWES SPOKE TO THE COMMISSION ABOUT PARTICIPATING IN "YOUTH VIEW," A HALF -HOUR CABLE PROGRAM FEATURING YOUTH FROM THE COMMUNITY DISCUSSING CURRENT TOPICS OF INTEREST TO YOUNG PEOPLE. THE SHOW IS BROADCAST ON A T & T ACCESS CABLE AND THE VILLAGE CABLE CHANNEL 17. THE PROGRAM IS TAPED AT THE A T & T CABLE STUDIOS, 350 NORTH WOLF ROAD, MOUNT PROSPECT. MR. CLOWES HANDLES ALL ASPECTS BEHIND THE CAMERA AND MEMBERS OF THE YOUTH COMMISSION WOULD BE THE "TALENT' ON THE PROGRAM. MR. CLOWES STATED THAT A T & T CABLE HAS A TRAINING PROGRAM FOR ANYONE INTERESTED TO LEARN HOW TO WORK BEHIND THE SCENES OF A CABLE PROGRAM. (CALL 674 -9505 FOR NEXT CLASS INFORMATION) MR. CLOWES ADVISED THE COMMISSION HOW TO PREPARE FOR A PROGRAM: 1. CHOOSE A TOPIC AND DETERMINE WHAT IT COULD INVOLVE IN THE DISCUSSION. 2. INVITE APPROXIMATELY 3 -4 GUESTS RELATIVE TO THE TOPIC. THERE SHOULD BE NO MORE THAN 6 PARTICIPANTS INCLUDING THE HOST AND PANEL. 3. THE PROGRAM IS A TOTAL OF APPROXIMATELY 20 -25 MINUTES IN LENGTH AND IT IS NOT EDITED. 4. PREPARE THE QUESTIONS PRIOR TO THE PROGRAM AND KEEP IN MIND THAT IT HAS TO FILL THE 20 -25 MINUTES TIME SLOT. 5. ADVICE THE GUESTS OF THE QUESTIONS THAT WILL BE ASKED. THE COMMISSION DISCUSSED CURRENT "HOT' TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION ON YOUTH VIEW; MUSIC TRENDS AND A COMMUNITY CENTER FOR YOUTH. MR. CLOWES ADVISED OF AVAILABLE JANUARY DATES, 24 AND 31 AND WILL CHECK ON FEBRUARY AVAILABILITY. CHAIRMAN BYRNE TO HOST AND SARAH CORCORAN AND JAMES RUETSCHE TO BE ON THE PANEL FOR THE FIRST PROGRAM. FORMER YOUTH COMMISSION CHAIRMAN ALICEN PRIKKEL SPOKE TO THE COMMISSION ABOUT HER EXPERIENCE WITH "YOUTH VIEW." BUSINESS LETTERS AND FLYERS OUT TO SCHOOLS DISCUSSION ON UPDATING THE CURRENT FLYER AND BROCHURE SO THEY CAN BE DISTRIBUTED TO LOCAL AREA SCHOOLS TO PROMOTE THE YOUTH COMMISSION AND GET YOUTH FROM THE COMMUNITY INVOLVED. EFFECTIVE WAYS OF DISTRIBUTION WERE DISCUSSED; POSTING IN SCHOOL COMMON AREAS, DISTRIBUTING THROUGH THE PRINCIPAL, AVAILABLE AT SPECIAL EVENTS AND PRINTING IN PARENT NEWSLETTERS. KIM UNGER TO CONTACT MAURA JANDRIS, VILLAGE PUBLIC INFORMATION, FOR HELP WITH COMPLETING THE FLYER AND BROCHURE FOR THE YOUTH COMMISSION. FIELD TRIP PLANS WERE MADE TO VISIT ANOTHER YOUTH COMMISSION AND /OR COMMUNITY CENTER TO OBSERVE OTHER COMMUNITIES AND THEIR FACILITIES. CHAIRMAN BYRNE SET A DATE OF SATURDAY, 10 FEBRUARY 01 FOLLOWING THE COFFEE WITH COUNCIL MEETING. COMMISSION MEMBERS WERE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND THE COFFEE WITH COUNCIL MEETING FROM 9:00 - 11:00 A.M. AT VILLAGE HALL AND THEN PROCEED TO THE SCHEDULED COMMUNITY VISIT, A/A GILLIGAN TO CONTACT LOCAL CENTERS IN PALATINE, ARLINGTON HEIGHTS AND ELK GROVE VILLAGE FOR AVAILABILITY. COMMISSION MEMBERS REVIEWED A FLYER FROM CROYA IN LAKE FOREST. CHAIRMAN BYRNE TO CONTACT THEM TO SCHEDULE A VISIT BY THE YOUTH COMMISSION. THANK YOU LETTERS CHAIRMAN BYRNE READ THANK YOU LETTER TO FORMER YOUTH COMMISSION SECRETARY SHEILA McCARTHY AND ALL YOUTH COMMISSION MEMBERS SIGNED. SECRETARY CINDY RUMORE DELIVERED TO ACTING CHIEF OF POLICE THOMAS F. DALEY FOR DELIVERY TO SHEILA McCARTHY. A/A LOHRSTORFER SUGGESTED A CONGRATULATORY LETTER BE WRITTEN FROM THE YOUTH COMMISSION TO RETIRING CHIEF OF POLICE RONALD W. PAVLOCK FOR HIS SUPPORT AND COOPERATION WITH THE YOUTH COMMISSION. OTHER BUSINESS A/A SCHEIN SUGGESTED THE COMMISSION CONTACT MAURA JANDRIS AND INVITE HER TO ATTEND THE FEBRUARY MEETING TO DISCUSS PUBLICITY MEMBERSHIP OUTREACH FOR THE YOUTH COMMISSION. A/A SCHEIN ALSO ENCOURAGED ALL COMMISSION MEMBERS TO ATTEND THE COFFEE WITH COUNCIL MEETINGS. A/A NAGEL EXPLAINED WHAT THE MOUNT PROSPECT CELESTIAL CELEBRATION IS. THIS YEAR'S EVENT IS BEING HELD AT BRISTOL COURT ON SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 3, 2001.A/A NAGEL ASKED IF ANY MEMBERS WERE PLANNING ON ATTENDING TO CONTACT MRS. FARLEY FOR TICKETS AT 255 -8755. THE MEMBERS OF THE COMMISSION DISCUSSED A CHANGE OF MEETING DATE FOR THE FEBRUARY MEETING DUE TO SCHEDULE CONFLICTS. THE MEETING WAS CHANGED FROM WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 7, 2001 TO THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 8, 2001. THE MEETING WILL BE HELD IN THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT SENIOR CENTER, 50 SOUTH EMERSON STREET.
