OTHERS ALCHOLIC BEVERAGE SPECIALS

RESOLUTION NO. 18-88
A RESOLUTION ENCOURAGING NORTHWEST MUNICIPAL CONFERENCE
MEMBERS TO ADOPT BANS ON "HAPPY HOURS" AND
OTHER ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE SPECIALS
WHEREAS, there are over 20,000 alcohol-related traffic deaths per year in the
United States including hundreds of these deaths in Illinois and the Chicago
Metropolitan area; and
WHEREAS, the over-consumption of alcoholic beverages promotes an increased
incidence of crimes such as vandalism, assault, battery and domestic violence; and
WHEREAS, any promotion that encourages people to consume alcoholic beverages at
an accelerated pace may result in intended and inadvertent intoxication to illegal
levels; and
WHEREAS, the final report of the Illinois DUI Task Force recommends the
elimination of "happy hours" and other alcoholic beverage specials which encourage
over-consumption; and
WHEREAS, regulations limiting or banning "happy hours" or other alcoholic beverage
specials are most effective when established on a regional basis.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF
TRUSTEES OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS:
SECTION ONE: That the Mayor and Board of Trustees encourage the members of
the Northwest Municipal Conference to join the Village of Mount Prospect in
adopting bans on "happy hours" and other alcoholic beverage specials.
SECTION TWO: That this Resolution shall be in full force and effect from and
after its passage and approval in the manner provided by law.
