Mayor's Report 11/19/2013 PROCLAMATION DECEMBER 1- DECEMBER 7, 2013 WHEREAS, in 1980 the annual Teddy Bear Walk was started by the Mount Prospect Public Library, Mount Prospect State Bank, and downtown merchants to provide a holiday tradition for the children of Mount Prospect; and WHEREAS, Mount Prospect Public Library continues the program 1 through December 8, the Library will be collecting new or like-new unwrapped books, in English and Spanish, for local children in need, age six and under; and rd WHEREAS, December 7, 2013 marks the 33 anniversary of this annual event; and WHEREAS, the event will be celebrated with songs, stories, and a parade; and WHEREAS, the event will end with Ted E. Bear leading a parade of families and bears in the annual Teddy Bear Walk; and WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect recognizes this popular community event. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Arlene A. Juracek, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim December 1 through December 7, 2013 as MOUNT PROSPECT TEDDY BEAR WALK WEEK, and on behalf of the Village I thank everyone who has contributed to making the Teddy Bear Walk a favorite holiday tradition for the families of Mount Prospect. _____________________ Arlene A. JURACEK AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES FROM:DOREEN JAROSZ ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT TO THE VILLAGE MANAGER DATE:NOVEMBER 12, 2013 SUBJECT:KAMPAI JAPANESE STEAK HOUSE 2330 SOUTH ELMHURST ROAD CHANGE IN OWNERSHIP/REQUEST FOR CLASS “F3” LIQUOR LICENSE On Wednesday, October 16, 2013 the AdministrativeAssistant to the Village Manager met with applicant Mr. Inseok Suh and his wife Ms. Gu Lim Kim, to discuss Mr. Suh’s request for a change in ownership for the existing Class “F3” liquor license classification at Kampai Japanese Steak House. The “F3” classification providesfor full service liquor both in a restaurant and lounge setting. Mr. Suh is under contract to purchase the assets and goodwill of Kampai. Mr. Suh is currently the head chef/manager of Kampai. The current owner is retiring and the purchase of the business is contingent upon approval of the transfer. Mr. Suh has extensive knowledge as a headchef in the restaurant circlewith Macy’s and Sears’sheadquarters as past employers. Ms. Kim andthe current Kampai associatemanager will manage the dailyoperations of the restaurant. Mr. Suhplans no changeto the decor, menu or hours of operation. Mr. Suh is hopeful to keep Kampai’s current loyal customers and not have any interruption of service or blemish the high standard reputation thatKampaihas built over the years. Ms. Jarosz discussed at length with Mr. Suh and Ms. Kimthe Village’s particular sensitivity to the sale of alcohol to minors and over service to clearly intoxicated individuals. She also indicated that Mr. Suh is responsible for the actions of all employees and managers. Ms. Jarosz coveredthe Village’s Fight Ordinance requirements. Mr.Suh and Ms. Kim both indicated they had read the Village’s rules and regulations in this regard and understood all of the Village’s requirements. There has never been a Liquor Code violation recorded for this establishment. The required application is complete and on file along with the payment of appropriate fees and other documentation. The applicant’s fingerprints and background check are on file. If the Village Board considers this request favorably, a Motion recognizing a change in ownership for the existing Class F-3 License would be appropriate.
