Mayor's Report 10/15/2013 P R O C L A M A T I O N DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH OCTOBER 2013 WHEREAS, violence against women and children continues to become a more prevalent problem in the Northwest Suburbs; and WHEREAS, the problems of domestic violence affects all citizens of Illinois and are not confined to any group of people, but cross all economic, gender, racial and societal barriers and are supported by societal indifference; and WHEREAS, security and humanity through the systematic use of physical, emotional, sexual, psychological and economic control and/or abuse; and WHEREAS, the impact of domestic violence is wide-ranging, directly affecting families, children and society as a whole; and WHEREAS, 30,848 orders of protection were written in Cook County, Illinois in 2012; and WHEREAS, 140,346 offenses were reported to Illinois Police in 2012; and WHEREAS, local educational information and resources are available by visiting the www.endallabuse.org web site; and WHEREAS, it is fitting to set aside a special time to bring this issue to the attention of all residents of the Village of Mount Prospect so they can become better informed and involved in local programs to end the cycle of violence. NOW, THEREFORE, I , Arlene A. Juracek,Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim the month of October 2013 as DOMESTIC VIOLENCE AWARENESS MONTH in the Village of Mount Prospect, and I encourage our residents to join forces with the Northwest Suburban Alliance on Domestic Violence, law enforcement, social service organizations and concerned citizens across the country to raise the public awareness of domestic violence issues. ______________________________ Arlene A. ALGONQUIN RD. REQUEST FOR A NEW CLASS “F2” LIQUOR LICENSE On Wednesday October 2, 2013 the Village Manager met with owner Mr. Douglas Stewart and his wife Mrs. Yupin Stewart regarding their request for the creation of a new Class “F2” liquor license for the above referenced establishment based on requests for liquor service from their patrons. The Class “F2” license provides for the sale of beer and wine at dining tables. Mr. Stewart purchased the restaurantin March 2013 and is currently operating the establishment without liquor service. This location was the former site of the Little Bangkok restaurant which also did not serve alcohol. The total building square footage is 1,200 square feet with an estimated 18 tables. Mrs. Yupin will be the full time cook/manager at the restaurant along with two associate managers. The restaurant will be open six days a week Monday through Friday 11:00 a.m.-9:00 p.m. and Saturday from 4:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. The restaurant is closed on Sundays. The menu includes a wide variety of traditional Thai cuisine. Mr. Stewart indicated that neither he nor his wife had any experience in the service of alcohol. The Village requires, and the owners agreed, to complete a certified liquor servers' training course prior to the issuance of a License. The Village Manager discussed at length with Mr. and Mrs. Steward the Village’s particular sensitivity to the sale of alcohol to minors and over service to clearly intoxicated individuals. The Village Manager also indicated that the applicant is responsible for the actions of all employees and managers. Mr. Janonis covered the Village’s Fight Ordinance requirements. Mr. Stewart indicated that he had read the Village Liquor Code and understood the requirements of same. A completed application along with fees and required documents have been submitted. The owner has submitted to fingerprinting and background checks. If the Village Board considers this application favorably, an Ordinance creating a new Class “F2” liquor license should be adopted. KENSINGTON ROAD REQUEST FOR A NEW CLASS “F1” LIQUOR LICENSE On Wednesday April 24, 2013 the Village Manager met with owner Mr. Juan Perez regarding his request for the creation of a new Class “F1” liquor license for the above referenced establishment. The Class “F1” license provides for full service of alcoholic beverages at dining tables only. Ms. Perez indicated MI is a Mexican restaurant and has been opened since 2010. Mr. Perez would like to expand his ability to offer Mexican themed mixed drinks to enhance his menu and satisfy frequent requests from his customers. The total building square footage is 1,360 square feet with an estimated 10 tables. Mr. Perez plans no change in menu or hours. Currently MI serves lunch and dinner seven days a week with operational hours of 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. The Village Manager discussed at length with Mr. Perez the Village’s particular sensitivity to the sale of alcohol to minors and over service to clearly intoxicated individuals. The Village Manager also indicated that the applicant is responsible for the actions of all employees and managers. Mr. Janonis covered the Village’s Fight Ordinance. Mr. Perez indicated that he read and understood the requirements of the Village Liquor Code. A completed application as well as all other required documentation is on file. Mr. Perezhas also submitted to a background check and fingerprints in association with the MIliquor license. As required by the Liquor Code all managers and individuals involved with the sale and service of alcohol must complete a certified liquor servers training course. If the Village Board views this application favorably, an Ordinance creating a new Class “F1” License would need to be adopted. MICHAEL E.
