French Visit 2013 Planning Committee Minutes
March 12, 2013
Attendance: Paula Randant, John Sibrava, Skip Farley, Janice Farley, Barbara VanArsdale, Stephen
VanArsdale, Judy Thorne, Michael Davey, Denise Rano, Irvana Wilks and Mary Ann Sibrava.
I. Meeting called to order at 5:35 PM by Chair Paula Randant
II. Citizens to be heard: No one
III. Discussions
a. Housing- Judy Thorne Host families have been chosen. Questions remain on arrival
times, visitor issues such as allergies, smoking habits, levels of English and what night
there will be dinner with host families. A host assignment chart will be sent to Visitors
and Commissioners and volunteers when ready. The Village Hall is available for Dinners
if necessary.
b. Bosch Tour -Paula Randant Paula met with Georgia Mitchel the manager of PR at
Bosch in MP. Bosch has offered a luncheon for 20 and presentation for a larger group.
The event will be from 11:30 to 1:30 on 9/17/13, Tuesday. Bosch has many multilingual
employees and will provide French speaking individuals to assist the event.
c. Daily Herald Tour- Janice Farley The Daily Herald visit will be Monday around 10AM
and will be at two sites and lunch at Pilot Pete's. Pilot Pete's is at the Schaumburg
Airport. Timing approximately 10 to 130. Will need transportation.
d. Randhurst Tour and visit — Irvana Wilks and John Korn A tour of the mall with a
reception /dinner at E & O or Black Finn. It appears Monday afternoon 2 or 3 pm then
somewhat early dinner as Library reception and meet and greet at MP Library is at 7:30.
e. Trip to Chicago -Gary and Paula Randant 9/18/13 Train to Chicago approx. 815, water
taxi to Michigan Ave. to pick up Wendella at 10:15. It is a 90 minutes tour. After tour
walk to Hancock Building for lunch at the Signature room at about 12:15. Plan to meet
walking tour guide at 2 PM at Hancock for approx. 1 hour then guests have several
hours on their own to shop or whatever with return to MP on train for Community
Dinner at Victoria at 71
f. French Market general discussion, need to discuss how it will work with Chair /Dorothy.
Currently recovering from surgery. Planned for Sunday 9/15 at Farmers Market,
typically coordinated by Maura El at Village but not known if new person will carry on.
Paula will ck with Maura.
g. Picnic after market -John Sibrava Lions Park will be the location and we will use the Band
shell for dancers. Christina Greco is Manager; Grills are not provided and must be
arranged by the Committee. Western Square dancing entertainers have been requested
by visitors. Games are planned to include bean bag toss. Park facilities can be reserved
from 12 noon to 5 pm.no cost for permit. There is a $50. Fee for cleanup. Discussion on
times. Consensus to prove an appropriate restful experience. John to put together a
schedule.
h. Western dancing- Denise Rano Western square dancing entertainers have been
confirmed at $100. For the dance caller. They are very committed to the event and
demonstrating /teaching the French visitors to dance. Total time about an hour with
dance demonstration and teaching lesson for 20 -30 minutes.
i. School visit asking Tricia to work on visit to Lincoln Middle School, a good possible date
would be Tuesday at 9 or 930 to be completed in time to be at Bosch by 11:30.
j. Visit to Villas at Sevres -Skip Farley Suggested Tuesday afternoon after Bosch and then
trip to Library Community Center on South side of MP.
k. Reception at Library-Mary Ann Sibrava Reception Monday at 730 PM open to
community to meet our quests. May have speaker.
I. Welcome and departures events not discussed and do not have particulars on arrival
and departure yet.
m. Materials, welcome packets and translations, Denise Rano and Judy Thorne short
discussion, no decisions yet.
n. Gifts for guests Janice Farley an imprinted portfolio was shown by Janice with 15 to 20
required. Widely admired and estimated cost $25. Some discussion of gift between
Village and Sevres. Will ck with Irvana and new mayor.
o. Chicago walking tour or boat tour or both with translator. Denise has arranged a
translator who will do either type of tour for $100 for 1 hour or $ 200. For up to 4 hours.
Will continue discussion.
p. Meals and time with Host families. Discussed. No decisions noted.
IV. Beginning discussion of cost of events and transportation- no decisions but Paula will work
on beginning budget with numbers we have so far.
V. Meals to be provided by Commissions No discussion yet except Paula to do a time grid to
begin to fill in times and meals etc.
VI. Community involvement- some discussion Library event, French Market, Community dinner
3/28 at Victoria.
VII. Miscellaneous no items.
VIII. Plan next meeting date chosen 5/7/13 at 5:30 in Village Hall.
