HomeMy WebLinkAbout4. CWC Minutes 06/08/2013 MINUTES VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT COFFEE WITH COUNCIL SATURDAY, JUNE 8, 2013 9:00 AM Community Room, Village Hall Meeting convened at 9:00 AM. Those present: Mayor Juracek, Trustee Steven Polit, Trustee Richard Rogers, Village Manager Mike Janonis and Fire Chief John Malcolm. Jim Chylik complimented Public Works for cutting down his tree so quickly. Jerry Boldt asked what the average time is for taking down a tree once it has been marked for removal. Staff advised this is based on the number of trees the contractor has to remove. Mr. Boldt suggested the Village consider picking up recycling every other week instead of weekly. Staff will look in to this at the next contract review to see if there would be any savings. Mr. Boldt raised concerns with the height of the grass in the 300 block of N. School Street. Staff will continue to monitor this. Louis Goodman disagreed with changing the recycling pick up, but thought maybe the yard waste pick up could be every other week. 1 Jan Kent asked about the status of the Lynn Court annexation. Mr. Janonis advised her that staff is still in discussion with the parties involved in the annexation and that they were making progress. Walter Szymczak had nothing to report. Ken Koeppen raised concerns about the roadway patch in front of his house on Linneman. He would like Public Works to monitor the work at this location to ensure it is properly repaired. Mr. Koeppen also indicated he would like to see more about the events going on in Mount Prospect in the Tribune neighborhood section. Joe O’Hare recently purchased his home and the backyard had some old railroad ties, concrete, and stone. He was wondering how he could dispose of this material. Mr. O’Hare was advised to properly dispose of this material with his normal garbage. Carol Tortorello requested a star be placed on the Village tree in front of Village Hall this year. Phyllis O’Neill raised concerns about the timing of the traffic lights at Emerson and Northwest Highway. Staff has been in contact with the State, but this is a complicated intersection due to the railroad crossing. Maxx Romanowicz was concerned about coyotes and didn’t feel residents should pay for the removal of these animals. Staff advised residents to contact the Park District regarding coyotes on the golf course. Licensed trappers must be used to remove these animals. Vicki Helin asked about the downtown redevelopment and was concerned with the number of empty retail stores in the downtown. The Mayor commented that the Community Development Director is working on getting shops in the downtown area, but the economy is the driving force. Staff will continue to work on this and is doing everything possible to attract businesses to Mount Prospect. Steve Pavletich of Commerce Bank would like to speak with the Finance Director about services he offers to generate additional income for the Village. Staff will pass along his contact information. John Weiser moved to the Village in 2011 and wanted to know the status of the repairs to the culverts and ditches on his block. The Village Manager advised him that bids were due back in the next few weeks and the goal is to complete the project this year. Thomas Tezky inquired about a location to get a new glass globe for a light fixture in his home. Staff advised trying Northwest Electric for a new fixture. Edwin Plocharski had a question about water billing and provided an article about Buffalo Grove and what they do for homes with underground lawn sprinkler systems. This issue has been raised by a number of residents and this will be reviewed by staff. 2 Tom Rogers asked about getting a variance for a 6’ fence on his property and staff advised the Village Code is 5’ and a variance is unlikely. Mr. Rogers also asked about cost sharing for sidewalk repairs and staff provided him this information from the Village newsletter. David Schein brought in cat mint and explained this plant material attracts cats. He also complimented Public Works on the job they did lining the sewers on his block. Larry Maurer is having problems with his neighbor’s bushes not being trimmed on his side and wanted to know if the Village could do anything. Staff advised him to speak with his neighbor and the contractor doing the work to have this issue resolved. The meeting was adjourned at 11:00 AM. Respectfully Submitted, John J. Malcolm Fire Chief 3
