COMMUNITY RELATIONS COMMISSION
Community Center, Village Hall
Thursday, June 6, 2013
I. CALL TO ORDER
The Community Relations Commission (CRC) of the Village of Mount Prospect met Thursday, June 6,
2013, at 7:05 p.m. at the Mount Prospect Village Hall located at 50 South Emerson Street, Mount
Prospect, Illinois.
II. ROLL CALL
Present: Acting Chairman Parikh
Commissioner Ortiz
Commissioner Schmalzer
Commissioner Rose
Also in Attendance: Mayor Arlene Juracek
Deputy Chief John Wagner
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
A motion was made by Commissioner Parikh and seconded by Commissioner Rose to approve the
minutes of the April 4, 2013, meeting. The minutes were unanimously approved by voice vote.
IV. CITIZENS TO BE HEARD
None Present
V. OLD BUSINESS
Food Drive
The Village Public Information Officer has placed information on the website regarding the food drive.
Commissioner Schmalzer placed bins at the library and reported he has already made one small
collection. The program which has been well received by the library will continue through the end of July
when the summer program ends. Commissioner Schmalzer stated they are using a recycling bin at this
time, but if possible would like to have a nicer looking bin for collections in the future.

The consensus was the commission will not participate this year.

VI. NEW BUSINESS
Discussion of CRC Mission with Mayor Juracek
Mayor Juracek stated she is currently reviewing all of the commissions in the Village and attended
tonight's meeting to discuss the Community Relations Commission. The Mayor remarked that she is very
pleased with the service given by the Community Relations Commission and went on to discuss the
purpose of the commission. Mayor Juracek reviewed the history of the commission and referred to a
conversation with retired Chairman Tolbert who said he could only recall one instance in the early days of
the commission when an issue was brought before the commission and it was unfounded. The Mayor
also discussed the projects undertaken by the commission and how there was a definitive overlap with
other commissions. Mayor Juracek said it is her desire to give members of the commission true meaning

to their service and she felt their energy could be better utilized on other commissions. Mayor Juracek
stated she would be putting the Community Relations Commission on hiatus until further notice, as the
review process would take some time. She encouraged the commission members to finish the food
project, which ends in July. Mayor Juracek also encouraged each member to view the Village website for
other commission openings and if they wish, to apply for a position, as there are openings on the
following commissions: Special Events, Zoning, Sister City, Transportation, etc. All members agreed with
the Mayor and welcomed the opportunity to serve on other commissions. Mayor Juracek thanked the
members for their service to the Village and the Community Relations Commission and she looks forward
to working with them on other commissions.
Given the pending status of the commission, no further meeting will be scheduled.

The meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m. after a motion was made by Commissioner Schmalzer and seconded
by Commissioner Rose. The motion was unanimously approved.
