CALL TO ORDER The Community Relations Commission (CRC) of the Village of Mount Prospect met Thursday, April 4, 2013, at 7:04 p.m. at the Mount Prospect Police Department 2 nd Floor Conference Room located at 112 East Northwest Highway, Mount Prospect, Illinois. II. ROLL CALL Present: Chairman Tolbert Commissioner Parikh Commissioner Ortiz Commissioner Schmalzer Commissioner Rose Also in Attendance: Deputy Chief John Wagner III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Commissioner Rose and seconded by Commissioner Parikh to approve the minutes of the December 6, 2012, meeting. The minutes were unanimously approved by voice vote. A motion was made by Commissioner Rose and seconded by Commissioner Parikh to approve the minutes of the February 7, 2013, noting there was no meeting due to a lack of quorum. The minutes were unanimously approved by voice vote. IV. CITIZENS TO BE HEARD None Present V. OLD BUSINESS Food Drive Commissioner Schmalzer informed the commission that he is working on a summer program with the Mount Prospect Library to have clearly marked bins available inside the library near the reception desks for food. The bins will be monitored by the commission members in conjunction with the library staff for regular pickups and subsequent drop off at the Village Hall. Commissioner Schmalzer stated the Director of Human Services, Nancy Morgan, fully supports the project and is working with him on the bins (see the attached e- mail). Commissioner Schmalzer will also be contacting Ms. Morgan and the new Village Public Information Officer, Marianthia Thanopoulos, to see about including the summer food drive on the Village Website, as well as in the Village Newsletter. VI. NEW BUSINESS Community Projects Chairman Tolbert stated the core function of the commission is to hear complaints from the public and since there are no issues, the commission should focus on its secondary function of promoting community relations. The commission members agreed to participate in the 4 th of July Parade as they did last year. When Chairman Tolbert receives the information, he will forward it to Commissioner Rose since she will once again spearhead the effort with Commissioner Schmalzer. CRC Minutes 04/04/13 Page 1 of 2 Commissioner Rose researched what other commissions are doing in their communities and presented a list for the commission's review (document attached). She is still checking with Hoffman Estates and Skokie. Commissioner Rose suggested starting an essay contest and will be contacting one school district to see the feasibility of undertaking such a project. Correspondence The invitation to the Mayor's retirement was discussed and Chairman Tolbert encouraged all members to attend. The commissioners were provided a schedule of meeting dates for the rest of the year. The next scheduled meeting will be June 6, 2013. VI. ADJOURNMENT The meeting adjourned at 7:45 p.m. after a motion was made by Commissioner Rose and seconded by Commissioner Parikh. The motion was approved unanimously.
