The meeting was called to order at 5:30 p.m.
Report on Trip to Sbvres
Irvana reported that the town was beautifully decorated for their arrival with U.S. and French flags on the
lightpoles and the delegation received a warm welcome. They toured schools, Versailles, Peace Pole
dedication & Armistice Day ceremony, Givemey, a tour of Paris, Porcelain Factory and attended a
banquet in their honor. They made a lot of new friends.
Report on Visit of Sbvres Conservatory
The Commission reviewed a report prepared by Judy Thorne regarding the visit. Host families were
needed to house the visitors. Lil Floros reported that Judy Thorne and Dorothy Kucera would be attending
a Special Events Commission meeting to ask for their assistance with the visit. The dates of the visit are
Oct. 25 - 31.
Policy for Visits
The Commission reviewed a draft policy from Irvana Wilks. A discussion took place with regard to the
need to define "official" in categorizing visits. It was also determined that a framework should be
established for processing employment requests from S~vres.
4tn of July Parade Report
The Commission had a float in the 4th of July Parade and members passed out flyers about the visit of the
Conservatory. The float featured a model of the peace pole constructed by Yngve and Carole Bloomquist
and decorated by the Public Works Department. The peace pole model and banners will be stored at
Public Works.
Budget Report
The Commission has $306.57 remaining in its budget. The Mayor suggested that the Commission think
about projects that would generate revenue so they could be more self-sufficient.
Irvana commented that it was helpful to go to conventions and get ideas from other communities. Dorothy
suggested thinking ofa fundraiser. Several ideas were discussed: Bastille Day, Downtown Block Party.
Le Sevrien - Translation
Melanie Karsen translated an article from Le Sevrien about the trip to Sbvres.
