CALL TO ORDER - ROLL CALL Mayor Gerald L. Farley Trustee Timothy Corcoran Trustee Dennis Prikkel Trustee Paul Hoefert Trustee Michaele Skowron Trustee Richard Lohrstorfer Trustee Irvana Wilks II. ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES OF FEBRUARY 22, 2000 III. CITIZENS TO BE HEARD IV. CREATION OF SISTER CITIES COMMISSION Beginning in the late 1980's, the Village embarked on a quest to establish a Sister Cities relationship. Over the course of the next decade, an Ad Hoc Committee of Mount Prospect residents convened to accomplish that goal. Several close encounters have taken place with cities in the Czech Republic, Hungary, United Kingdom and, most recently, France. In late 1999, Mayor Gerald L. Farley led a delegation of Mount Prospecters to the city of Sevres, France, a suburb outside of Paris. The purpose of the trip was to explore Sevres' interest in twinning with Mount Prospect in a formal relationship. The trip proved successful and a delegation from Sevres was invited to visit Mount Prospect in May 2000 with the end result being the execution of documents formalizing a Sister Cities relationship. Since the trip to Sevres, the Sister Cities Ad Hoc Committee has been busy planning the details of the May visit as well as deliberating over the need for the creation of a formal Sister Cities Commission. Creation of a permanent Sister Cities Commission would give a higher degree of credibility to the work of the group as well as give it access to the resources of the Village. Attached for Village Board consideration and approval is a draft Ordinance creating a Sister Cities Commission. Also included are Minutes from the last few Ad Hoc Committee meetings and a draft protocol that will eventually serve as the official twinning document. Mayor Farley, members of the Ad Hoc Sister Cities Committee and appropriate Village staff will be in attendance to answer questions and facilitate discussion.
