Minutes
Saturday, January 3. 1998, 9:00 a.m.
Trustee's Room, Village Hall
ATTENDING: Corky Dunn, Steve Durlacher, Leo Floros, Lil Floros, Linda Hoefert, Adriane,
Lewis, Laura Luteri and Laury Younquist
Absent: Elmer Blasco, Mike Janonis, Janice Farley, Jill Friedrichs, Terri Pistone,
William Tucker
I. Having attained quorum, the meeting was called to order at 9:05 a.m. by Lil Floros, Co-
Chairman.
II. Minutes of the December 6, 1997 meeting were approved as distributed. Corky Dunn
noted that it was important to get "feed back" on the holiday calendar as was discussed
previously.
i I I . Financial Report - Brian Caputo prepared a financial report for the month on December
1997. The cash balance as of December 31, 1997 was $14, 117.29.
IV. Project Reports
A. Sounds of the Season - This year the program was indoors at Randhurst and was
very successful. Between 250 and 300 singers participated. Randhurst is
already talking about next year. The Chairman will thank Pastor Joob and
Randhurst for their help with this project.
B. Holiday Decorating Contest. Linda Hoefert reported that there were 32 entries in
this year's contest. Awards were presented at a VOMP meeting. Signs were
distributed. Winners were announced in the newspapers and were televised on
Channel 17. Letter were sent to all those who participated. Kudos to Linda
Hoefert and her committee for a job well done. Linda also asked that a new
chairman be appointed for next year.
V Celestial Celebration V
A. The chairman distributed a financial statement for the Celestial Celebration V. To
date the SEC has received $8,100 in ticket sales and donations from Arc Disposal,
Artemis Restaurant, MP National Bank, First Chicago Bank, Friedrichs Funeral
Home, Landis & Staefa, Mid City National Bank, Photo's Hot Dogs and Prospect
Fastener Corporation totaling 12,300.00 We also have pledges from Busse
Automotive /Busse Car Wash, Randhurst Merchants' Association, Jameson's Char
House, Mobil Oil and 3 -Com.
B. Linda Hoefert reported that Kevin Grouwinkle has designed Mardi Gras masks
which he is contributing to the banquet decor. The table favors will be hurricane
glasses which were purchased through Seventeen Specialties. She said that
members of the Commission will be asked to come to the Public Works offices
sometime during the week prior to the banquet to assemble the decorations. The
meeting on February 7th has been canceled. Members are asked to come to help
decorate Bristol Court at that time instead.
VI. Shining Stars - Laura Luteri reported that the selection committee had met and decided
to award 13 awards in the eleven categories. There will also be a special award given
again this year. Winners and winning nominators were contacted by phone. All persons
who were nominated received a letter, as did those who had nominated them asking them
to consider nominating someone again next year.
VII. Veteran's Memorial - No report.
VIII. Art Fair Proposal - The Arts Council of Mount Prospect has dis- incorporated. They
were approached to see if they might reconsider and provide seed money for this
proposed event. There was no interest among the former members in doing so.
Motion: It was moved and seconded table any further action on an Arts Fair for the summer of
1998. The concept will be revisited in time to plan an activity for the summer of 1999.
Ayes: Dunn, Durlacher, Hoefert, Lewis, and Luteri
Nays: Floros, Floros and Younquist Motion Carried.
VII. "Do -It- Yourself" Sousa - Laura Luteri reported that The Mount Prospect Park District
will not be sponsoring ParkFest this year due to financial losses during the previous
years. Instead there will be a series of three afternoon concerts in the park called
Sunday Afternoon Neighborhood Festivals. The Festival to be held in Lions Park on
Sunday, June 14 will feature the "Do -It- Yourself" Sousa band. There is no money for a
tent this year nor will the Park District be able to provide chairs for the audience. It
was suggested that perhaps some sponsoring organization be approached to pay for the
tent. Leo Floros will contact the Lions Club to see if there might be any interest in
having a tent which would be used for their pancake breakfast and the Sousa concert. By
the next meeting, Laura will have more details. The following people volunteered to
help her as a committee: Steve Durlacher, Corky Dunn, Laury Younquist. Leo Floros
will ask Elmer Blasco to take his place as publicity person on this committee.
VIII. Other Business - none
X.. Adjourn - No other business being before the Commission, the meeting was adjourned at
10:45 a.m. The next meeting of the Commission will take place on Saturday, March 7,
1998 at 9:00 a.m. in the Trustees Room of the Village Hall. Janice Farley will provide
refreshments for this meeting.
