October 3, 1998
ATTENDING: Corky Dunn, Steve Durlacher, Janice Farley, Leo Floros, Lil Floros, Laura Luteri, Della
Baldwin, Laury Younquist
1. The meeting was called to order by Leo Floros. Minutes of the August 29, 1998 meeting were
approved.
2. Financial balance at the end of September: $6,601.08.
3. Veteran's Memorial. The committee continues to seek money. They had hoped to begin construction
this fall but were late in seeking zoning requirements. However, they are confident that the memorial will
be constructed in 1999. They hope to have a ground- breaking ceremony yet in 1998.
4. Celestial Celebration. Ticket forms are ready and invitations are printed. Photo albums (favors) will
be here by Tuesday. Lil ordered 800 and that will be the absolute tops for attendance. Steve Durlacher
has signed on the Bill O'Connell Band, a group of 11 or 12 with a singer, known for big band and swing
music but will play all styles of music. Cost is $2300. Banquet theme is "Times to Remember" with
mauves and pinks as the colors.
5. Shining Stars. Laura Luteri reported 10 nominations to date. She will be setting a date to meet with
the selection committee.
6. Welcome to Mount Prospect. The mailing is out and responses (53 to date) are in the mail daily.
Each response will receive a reminder post card the week before. 1999 dates are set: April 24 and
October 30.
7. Sounds of the Season. Leo and Lil met with Jerry Swanson and Rev. Jobb at Randhurst. The new
manager is proving a little difficult to work with.
8. House Decorating Contest. Laury Younquist is replacing Linda Hoefert as chairman.
9. Octoberfest. Steve Durlacher asked for assistance from the commission for next year's Octoberfest
put on by the Mount Prospect Parks Foundation. Motion was made and seconded to support this event.
It was approved.
10. Corky Dunn brought the suggestion of a circus she had attended to have at the Octoberfest. Steve
will look into this. He felt it was the same circus that was held 2 years ago at Melas Park.
11. Please note: The next meeting will be October 31, 1998. Laura Luteri will bring the refreshments.
