3. Sounds of the Season. There was a good attendance with over 300 singers. Elmer Blasco, working
as parking attendant, reported that more singers than last year used the designated parking lot. The sign
helped and the barricades could be lighter. He could have used more help. Fran Higley served as
refreshment chairman and asked Lil to thank those that helped. Leo & Lil attended a follow -up meeting
at Randhurst and it was decided to hold the event inside the mall next year with singers on walkways on
upper level. The date is December 6. Times need to be coordinated with other activities on that
weekend.
4. Holiday Events Calendar. Lil suggested that the commission make up a holiday events brochure,
listing all events that are open to the public. This could be a 8 -12 page insert in the village newsletter
with descriptions and pictures. Lil, Mike Janonis, and Janice Farley will work on this.
5. Veteran's Memorial. Elmer Blasco handed out the new brochure which as been sent out in a mailing,
handed out to each child in School District 57 and to businesses. Brochures will be given out in all
school districts. The committee is working on grant requests to United and the Robert R. McCormick
Foundation. The Mayor has written letters to the President of United and to the Treasurer of U.S.
Robotics. They have around 40 more grant requests to work on. Around $40,000 has been collected to
date.
6. Celestial Celebration. Tickets are going well. There were 82 nominations for Shining Stars. 13
people plus 1 special award were chosen. Letters were sent to all nominators and nominees. The event
will be covered by Channel 6. Lit has raised $4700 to date with a possibility of more.
7. House Decorating Contest. Linda Hoefert announced that there were 9 winners. The Grand Prize
was a tie. There were 10 less entries this year, possibly because of the early deadline. Linda
recommended that new judges be used next year. The Journal has asked if the commission would like
them to sponsor the contest with publicity and coverage. It will be discussed at the next meeting.
8. Welcome to Mount Prospect. Mike Janonis will have a detailed outline at the next meeting.

approved to grant this event a minimum of $350 to work with.
11. The next meeting will be held February 8. This is a week later because of the banquet. The meeting
will be held in the lunchroom at Village Hall.
Respectfully submitted, Janice Farley, Secretary
