MOUNT PROSPECT SPECIAL EVENTS COMMISSION

Saturday, April 12, 1997

Attending: Elmer Blasco, Corky Dunn, Janice Farley, Leo Floros, Lil Floros, Jill
Friedrichs, Mike Janonis, Laury Youngquist
1. The meeting was called to order by Lil Floros. Minutes of the March 1, 1997 meeting
were approved.
2. Finance report. The Celestial Celebration made a profit of $1206.29. Balance as of
February 28, 1997 is $3,026.90.
3. New member Laury Youngquist was introduced. Her address is 200 N. Forest and
telephone # is 255 -9781.
4. Veteran's Memorial. Elmer Blasco reported that every cash register in town will have
a display of brochures. Any person who donates $25 or more has a chance to win free
United Airlines tickets. Drawing will be held November 9. 14 business proposals were
turned down, but the committee still hopes to receive money from U.S. Robotics. If this
money comes in, work will begin on the memorial. $55,000 has been received to date.
5. Do I Yourself Sousa. Information will be in the next village newsletter. Laura will
need help with rehearsals, etc. the week prior to the concert.
6. Welcome to Mount Prospect. A new date was set -- Saturday, May 17, 1:00 -3:00 p.m.
at the Senior Center. Invitations will be going out to all residents that have moved to
Mount Prospect in the last six months.
7. Fourth of July Parade. There are 25 definite units at this date. Jill has requested lots of
volunteer help for that day.
8. Art Fair. Laury Youngquist is in charge. Date is August 23, 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
The Arts Council has worked with the American Society of Artists (ASA) the last two
years but they have been difficult to work with. Laury will call Ken Fritz to see if would
be willing to get artists, possibly a stipend for Ken. Laury will get back to the commission
concerning this.
9. Holiday Calendar. Corky Dunn will be in charge of this and will be sending out a letter
to churches, schools, etc. for events and dates to be included in the calendar.
