Saturday, November 2, 1996
ATTENDING: Elmer Blasco, Corky Dunn, Steve Durlacher, Janice Farley, Leo Floros, Lil Floros, Jill
Friedrichs, Fran Higley, Linda Hoefert, Adriane Lewis, Laura Luteri, Bill Tucker
1. The meeting was called to order by Lil Floros, Minutes of the October 5, 1996 meeting were
approved as corrected. It was stated that the Park Ave Band will be playing again at the same price as
last year. Their cost has increased.
2. Finance Report. Banquet tickets were printed at a cost of $42.27 making the balance October 30,
1996 $1,798.34.
3. Anti -Drug March October 6. The march was very successful for a first -time event. Several glitches
will need to be worked out for next year. Almost all of the Commission members helped in some way.
4. Veteran's Memorial. The committee is now an ad hoc committee of the Village, which will help
immensely in getting foundation grants. Yesterday (November 1) the committee received the 501(c)(3)
tax status approval from the IRS. An information folder will be prepared to use in a door -to -door
campaign.
5. Celestial Celebration. Invitations have been sent and ticket orders have started to come in. Jill will
again make name tags.
6. Shining Star Awards. Laura mailed out 21 applications from requests. She has received 22
nominations to date. Deadline is midnight November 8. The Selection Committee will meet Saturday,
November 16, in the conference room at Village Hall.
7, House Decorating Contest. Linda Hoefert passed out a copy of entry form which will go in the
Village newsletter. Awards will be presented at the December 17 Village Board meeting. It was
suggested pictures be taken of winners to show at the board meeting. Also suggested was the idea of a
Halloween House Decorating contest. This will be discussed at the July 1997 SEC meeting.
8. Sounds of the Season. Churches have been contacted and the response is excellent. Randhurst will
provide artificial snow if there isn't any real snow on the ground.
9. Gazebo. Randhurst will again loan the mannequins. Janice Farley will contact Public Works.
10, Laura Luteri announced that the Do -it- Yourself Sousa for 1997 will be held June 15. This date is
Father's Day and the family theme will be stressed.
