Overview of the Village of Mount Prospect Human Services Department - Programs and Services
Nancy Morgan, Human Services Director provided a comprehensive overview including a brief history of the
Department. The Human Services (Division) was established in the mid 1970's to provide activities for semor
citizens. Since that time the Human Services Department has expanded its scope to include four (4) major
3rogram areas. 1) Social Services
2) Nursing Health
3) Senior Recreation Activities
4) Youth Activities
Ms. Morgan identified an extensive list of programs and services provided in each of these areas. She stated
that the Department is well represented in a number of local and regional agencies, which enhances their ability
to make appropriate referrals should a resident's needs go beyond their services. Ms. Morgan also credited the
Village's strong interdepartmental communication/cooperation in identifying and coordinating services to meet
the needs of Iow-income and at risk families.
Ms. Persino continued the presentation with an overview of services and programs specifically designed t(: meet
the needs of the Village's Hispanic community. In addition to the services provided Ms. Persino also talked
about some of the concerns, problems and challenges faced by Hispanic families. She stated that St. Cecilia's
Church sponsors the local Hisoanic Ministry and that the Ministry is an important resource in the Hispanic
community.
Ms. Persino also talked about the Mentor Program and the positive impact it has on at risk children And, like
Police Chief Eddingtion she talked about the benefits of a proposed Neighborhood Resource Center.
The Commission shared many positive comments about the level of services provided and asked what role the
Commission could play in support of the Hispanic Ministry and other programs. Ms. Persino stated she would
pose this question to the Ministry Coordinator, Father Sonny de Rivera
