Scott, Paul Seils, Adelaide Thulin, Fred Thulin, Irvana Wilks. Staff: Maura Jandris The meeting was called to order at 5:31 p.m. 1. Old Business Unveiling of Church Banner Committee Member J.L. Scott and Pastor Kirk Reed of Trinity United Methodist Church (representing the Mount Prospect Church CounciI) presented the Commission with the Church Banner. The Banner, which was constructed by Barbara Fry, contained panels from 19 of the churches in town. The banner would travel to the participating churches in Mount Prospect and then be sent to our Sister City, S~vres to be displayed at the churches there. The Comrrfission thanked Mr. Scott for all of his hard work coordinating the project. Cooking Classes Members of the Commission met with Chef Charles Tual of Kendall College. Chef Tual expressed interest in working with the Commission to hold a cooking class with the purpose of introducing French culture to the residents of Mount Prospect and making them aware of the Sister Cities relationship. Trustee Wilks explained that the idea originated from the Illinois Sister Cities Conference that she and Chairwoman Dorothy Kucara had attended. One of the communities had presentations on international cooking and then had a large dinner open to the public. The Sub-Comrinttee was invited by Chef Tual to visit Kendall College, which they did, and enjoyed the experience of sampling Chef Tual's cuisine. Staff is working with local schools and churches attempting to determine a location for the event. The Commission approved the subcommittee to proceed with the planning of the cooking class/demonstration. Winter Parade The Commission discussed their contribution to the Winter Parade. The CommSssion would be donating cookies for the refreshment tent for the parade on December 7. Chairwoman Kucera will take care of securing the cookies for that day. The Comm/ssion also requested that the area have signage so people knew that the cookies were from the Sister Cities Commission. Subcommittee Reports · Service Organizations - no report · Business - no report · Government - no report · Schools - The correspondence program is moving forward. Melanie Karsen is working with teachers from Holmes Jr. High, Lincoln Jr. High and Harsey H.S. on the correspondence program. · Churches - see banner nnveiling above. Other News The Commission discussed their trip to S~vres in the spring. The dates decided upon were May 5-9. The group wants to be in S~vres for the rededication of the peace pole. The staffin S~vres was in the process of preparing the program. Two residents were present at the meeting to learn more about the trip. The Commission decided that Commission members would have first priority. This is due to the fact that people would be staying in "host" homes. Chairwoman Kucera recommended that reservations be made by March 1. The meeting concluded with Melanie Karsen narrating a slide show of S~vres, with the intent of acquainting members with S~vres.
