ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION

Thursday, August 3, 1995
8:00 A.M.
The regular meeting of the Economic Development Commission (EDC) of the Village of Mount
Prospect was held on Thursday morning, August 3, 1995 at the Village Hall in the Trustees Room,
100 South Emerson Street, Mount Prospect, Illinois.
CALL TO ORDER
The meeting was called to order at 8:10 a.m. by Chairman John Riordan. Members present were:
Dale Jessie and Ben Trapani. Members absent were Norman Kurtz, Brian McCarthy and Bruce
Gillilan: Also present were Mayor Farley; Tom Shanley and David Hulseberg, Deputy Director of
Community Development.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Mr. Riordan asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of July 6, 1995 . Dale
Jesse made a motion to approve the minutes as prepared. The motion was seconded by Ben Trapani
and unanimously approved.
OLD BUSINESS
Dave Hulseberg provided an update on the following businesses: Hyundai, Braun Manufacturing,
Stimsonite, General Cinema at Randhurst, Menard's and United Airlines. In addition, Mr. Hulseberg
provided information on the Village Hall Space Study that was being prepared by consultants for
the Village. He related the importance of this study as it relates to future downtown developments.
Mr. Hulseberg indicated that the two studies that are being conducted by the Department of
Community Development are on Central Road and in the downtown area. Both of these studies
should provide some direction and guidance to the future and forthcoming information will be
shared with the Economic Development Commission. There was much interest and discussion, as
well as speculation, among the members of the Board as it related to opportunities that could be
presented to the Village and downtown development by the merger of NBD and First Chicago. It
was suggested in discussion, that the Village should look at acquiring the First Chicago building if
it became available. Mr. Hulseberg reported that the Village Manager was in contact with owners
of that property to see if there is any interest to place the property for sale.
There was a report provided by Tom Shanley on activities at Randhurst. Mr. Shanley indicated that
La Hacienda is looking to locate at the old Florenz property. Also, Jimmy's Charhouse was
considering opening at the same location. There is interest from Border's Books to locate at the
outlot that would be developed on the old General Cinema property in the future.
Home Depot anticipates completing their structure at the end of September with an occupancy of
mid - October. Mr. Hulseberg interjected that he believed that timeframe was rather zealous and was

not likely to be met. Mr. Shanley stated that the Old Gap Navy Store is doing greatly and it was
the store's best grand opening. Presently, our Old Gap Navy Store is ranked third of the 50 stores
east of the Mississippi.
Ben Trapani indicated that on Tuesday he will be meeting with Bill Cooney and Dave Hulseberg
to discuss ways of improving the permit process.

The meeting was adjourned at 9:05 a.m. on a motion by Dale Jesse, seconded by Ben Trapani.
