Chairman Pro Tcm Nora Gawlik called the Junc 06, 2012 Mount Prospect Youth Commission meeting to order
at 7:06 p.m. in the first floor training room of the Policc and Fire Headquarters, Mount Prospect, Illinois.

the May 02, 2012 Youth Commission mecting. The motion carried by unanimous approval.

Mayor Irvana Wilks and Village Clerk Lisa Ange attended the meeting to discuss Youth Commission issues:

• Recruitment — inability to recruit new members tojoin the Youth Commission.
Commissioners and Adult Advisors discussed the future of the Youth Commission.
• Adult Advisor David Schein discussed the possibility of disbanding the Youth Commission temporarily
due to lack of membership and commitment. He added an interim program of appointing adult advisors
as Youth Commission members was upo,,ibUity.
• Adult Advisor {]cnrge C|nwc, stated the former pon8,um. Tccu, and Pmrutu for u Better Mount
Prn,pcct'u\,n known as TAP Mount Prn,pcct, was run by the adults with the tccu, doing the work
where the Youth Commission is mainly run by the youth members. The Youth Commission has
developed some valuable information for the community iu the Youth Resource Catalog which supplies
contact information for community nrguuixutinu,. ,choo|,, park di,tdctu, church nrguuixutinu,. and
sports nrguuixutinu, for youth and family. The Youth Commission conducted surveys in the `viUugc to
(l input on i,,uc, directed at youth in the community and published the results of youth and adult
rc,pou,c,. "Youth View from Mount Prospect" also is available for the community on cable TV
discussing topics rc|cvuut to youth. The Youth Commission has |n,t focus and purpose and it is
important to spend time teaching youth members how tncorrectly run ugnvcrumcut mcctiva uccnrdiva
tn Robert's Rules nI Order, u, outlined iu the `vU|u-cOrdinance.
• Adult Advisor Steven Pn|it stated Youth Commission members this year were younger and ,tU| in the
|curuiug process of how to conduct and complete commission business. He ,uggc,tcd adult advisors be

needed.
• Adult Advisor Scott [Uipck felt the reason it's difficult tnrecruit youth today as they arc more actively
involved iu school- AP classes, ,port,. and community nrguuixutinu,than ever before.
Commissioners feel more pressure mexcel i, placed nu youth m take AP classes, participate in ,por,, be active
in the community ctc. and attend collc-c in order to become an accomplished adult.
