Minutes of August 4, 2012

Call to Order 9:01 a.m.
Secretary's Report Mike Janonis asked that the Minutes from July 7, 2012 be deferred to the next meeting.
Motion to approve the deferral of the July 7, 2012 Minutes was made by Tarina Wimmer, seconded by Linda
Hoefert. No discussion was held, motion to defer was approved unanimously.
Citizens to Be Heard None
Financial Report The Treasurer's Report was distributed by Mike Janonis. There was no discussion and the
Treasurer's Report was accepted as presented.
4 th of July Parade There were 83 units, 7 new units and 2 candidates for office. Budget for the event was
$19,000. of that $16,500. was spent on entertainment groups. According to the Financial Report a total of
$24,752.89 was spent for the day, of that $8,252.89 was utilized by Public Works. A copy of the 4 th of July
Statement is included with the Minutes. Jill Friedrichs thanked those that helped, tried to help and Christina
Greco for co- announcing the parade.
Do- It- yourself Sousa Martha Helm reported that there were good size groups both in the band and the
audience on Monday night. Five boxes of American flags were handed out to audience members. Martha did
relate that she had a bad experience when ordering the flags due to "change of procedure ". A meeting will be
held with key band members regarding the event next year and the SEC will revisit in September.
Susan G. Koman 3 Day Walk Tarina Wimmer told members there are 1,200 walking participants this year.
1,500 wristbands have been ordered and there will be pink lemonade. Teresa VanOpdorp has volunteered
River Trails Park District campers to make posters of encouragement. Sandy DiCaro took the whole case of
Jelly Belly's to make individual packets. Several Walgreen stores will be participating this year and there are
residents still signing up to participate, to date there are approximately 40 groups taking part. The Lions Club
may assist and will be at the Mount Prospect Golf Course if they do. The fire department is offering t- shirts for
a donation of $10. with all monies being donated to Susan G. Koman 3 Day Walk.
Family Bike Ride (August 18, 2012) Teresa VanOpdorp and Christina Greco stated that the Mount Prospect
Chamber of Commerce has donated the granola bars and water for the event. No t- shirts are needed this
year, last year a large order was placed to take care of two years. There are close to 200 pre- registered
participants. SEC members that are volunteering that day should be at Melas Park at 8:30 a.m.
New Business Mike Janonis recommended that the SEC defer the Celestial Celebration discussion until the
September meeting. This will be the 20 Anniversary of the dinner.
Other Business Jill Friedrichs asked that members start thinking of new events the SEC could host.
The next meeting of the SEC will take place on Saturday, September 1 5t
Adjourn 10:12 a.m. Motion made by Hoefert, seconded by Christina Greco. Motion approved
unanimously.
