Chairman Pro Tern Nora Gawlik called the June 06, 2012 Mount Prospect Youth Commission meeting to order
at 7:06 p.m. in the first floor training room of the Police and Fire Headquarters, Mount Prospect, Illinois.

the May 02, 2012 Youth Commission inecting. The motion carried by unanimous approval.

Commissioners and Adult Advisors discussed the future ofthe Youth Commission.
• Adult Advisor David Schein discussed the possibility ofdisbanding the Youth Comm temporarily
due to lack of membership and comm He added an interim prograin of appointing adult advisors
as Youth Commission members was apouuibUity.
• Adult Advisor George C|owou stated D/rmorpongram. T000u and Pmzotu, was run by the adults with the
t000u doing the work where the Youth Commission is mainly run by the youth members. Youth
Commission has developed some valuable iuD/rmuioo for the community, Youth Resource Catalog;
supplies cootactiuD/rmutioo for community orgaoixatioou, uchoo|u, park districts, church organizations,
and sports organizations for youth and family. The Youth Commission conducted surveys in the Village
to (Yet input on iuuuou directed at youth in the community and published the rouuhu of youth and adult
roupoouou. "Youth View Mount Prospect" also is available for the community on cable T\/ discussing
topics relative to youth. The Youth Commission has lost focus and purpose and itiuimportaotto spend
time teaching youth members how to correctly run a government mootiug. Robert's Du|ou of Order, as
outlined iu the Village Ordinance.
• Adult Advisor Steven Po|it stated Youth Commission members this year were younger and utU| in the

mentors to youth members and a definite increase of number ofmembers to the Youth Commission is
needed.
• Adult Advisor Scott [Uipok felt the reason it's difficult torecruit youth today as they are moroactively
involved in school- /\Pclasses, sports, and community oz�aoixatioouthan ever before.
Commissioners feel more pressure to excel is placed on youth m take APclasses, participate iuspor be active
in the community etc. and attend college in order to become an accomplished adult.

Suggestions made for the summer for the Youth Commission Commissioners:

Youth Commission agreed to cancel the July and August meetings, next meeting will be September 05, 2012.

Adult Advisor George Clowes encouraged youth members to visit area Youth Commissions: Arlington Heights,
Z- Z- Z- Z-
Des Plaines, Lake Forest over the summer and make suggestions of changes to our Youth Commission at the
September meeting
Adult Advisor Steven Polit suggested current Youth Commission Commissioners recruit at least one new
member each to be appointed to the Youth Commission prior to the September meeting. Commissioners were
advised to email the commission with updates on their recruitment efforts.
The fate of the Youth Commission will be determined at the September meeting

Commissioner Michael Boivin, seconded by Commissioner Delanic Steinwe(', moved to adjourn the June 06,
2012 meeting of the Mount Prospect Youth Commission. The motion carried by unanimous approval.

Chairman Pro Tern Nora Gawlik adjourned the meeting at 8:20 p.m.
