HomeMy WebLinkAbout4. Mayor's Report 04/17/2012PROCLAMATION DAYS OF REMEMBRANCE APRIL 15 – 21, 2012 "NEVER AGAIN!" WHEREAS, the Holocaust was the state - sponsored, systematic persecution and annihilation of European Jewry by Nazi Germany and its collaborators between 1933 and 1945 —six million were murdered; Roma (Gypsies), people with disabilities, and Poles were also targeted for destruction or decimation for racial, ethnic, or national reasons; and millions more, including homosexuals, Jehovah's Witnesses, Soviet prisoners of war, and political dissidents, also suffered grievous oppression and death under Nazi tyranny; and WHEREAS, the history of the Holocaust offers an opportunity to reflect on the moral responsibilities of individuals, societies, and governments; and WHEREAS, we the people of the Village of Mount Prospect always remember the terrible events of the Holocaust and remain vigilant against hatred, persecution, and tyranny; and WHEREAS, we the people of the Village of Mount Prospect should actively rededicate ourselves to the principles of individual freedom in a just society; and WHEREAS, the DAYS OF REMEMBRANCE have been set aside for the people of the Village of Mount Prospect to remember the victims of the Holocaust as well as to reflect on the need for respect of all peoples; and WHEREAS, pursuant to an Act of Congress (Public Law 96 -388, October 7, 1980), the United States Holocaust Memorial Council designates the Days of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust to be Sunday, April 15 through Saturday, April 21, 2012, including the DAY OF REMEMBRANCE known as Yom Hashoah, April 19, 2012. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect do hereby proclaim the week of Sunday, April 15 through Saturday, April, 2012, as "DAYS OF REMEMBRANCE" in memory of the victims of the Holocaust and in honor of the survivors as well as the rescuers and liberators, and further proclaim that we, as citizens of the Village of Mount Prospect should work to promote human dignity and confront hate whenever and wherever it occurs. Lisa Angell Village Clerk Dated this 17 th day of April 2012 PROCLAMATION "Week of the Young Child" April 22 -28, 2012 Theme: "Early Years Are Learning Years" Sub Theme: "Embracing Diversity" WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect, Mt. Prospect Child Care Center, Inc. and other local organizations in conjunction with the National Association for the Education of Young Children are celebrating the Week of the Young Child; and WHEREAS, these organizations are working to improve early learning opportunities, which are crucial to the growth and development of young children, and to building better futures for everyone in the Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois; and WHEREAS, the future of Mount Prospect and the State of Illinois depends on the quality of early childhood experiences provided to young children today; and WHEREAS, in recognizing and supporting the people, programs and policies that are committed to high quality early childhood education as the right choice for kids. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim April 22 -28, 2012 as the "WEEK OF THE YOUNG CHILD" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I urge all individuals to recognize and support the needs of young children in ours and neighboring communities. Sterling Morton proposed to the Nebraska Board of Agriculture that a special day be set aside fog° the planting of trees; and WHEREAS, this holiday, called Arbor Day, was first observed with the planting of more than a million trees in Nebraska; and WHEREAS, Arbor Day is now observed throughout the nation and the world; and WHEREAS, trees can cut heating and cooling costs, clean the air, provide habitat fog° wildlife, beautify our community, and produce life- giving oxygen; and WHEREAS, trees are a renewable resource giving us paper, food, wood./or our homes and fuel fog° our fires. NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby proclaim Friday, April 27, 2012, as "ARBOR DAY" in the Village of Mount Prospect and I urge all citizens to observe Arbor Day by attending the ceremonial tree planting at St. Paul Lutheran School, on Friday, April 27, 2012, at 9:30 a. in.
