Pankaj Parikh, 401 S. Emerson: Mr. Parikh indicated that he is a member of the Community
Relations Commission and that he was present this morning to discuss a possible project for the
commission. He stated that his proposal would be to recognize the various ethnic and religious
groups in the Village on a monthly basis. He distributed a cultural events guide that detailed
various religious and ethnic events that take place throughout the year. The guide suggested
various themed months based on key events during that month. He said he felt that this type of
program would help educate the community on the various ethnic groups that exist throughout
the community and provide greater understanding amongst all people of the benefits of the
diversity that exists in Mount Prospect. There was general discussion by the Board and other
residents present about the benefits of such a program. Several Board members commented
that, if we were to publish such a calendar, we would need to make sure that it included all key
dates for all groups. Mr. Parikh was advised to further review this matter with the Community
Relations Commission and to report back to the Village Board.
David Shein, 512 Nawata: Mr. Shein indicated he was present to wish everyone Happy
Holidays.
Billie Colli: Ms. Colli stated that she is a student at Roosevelt University and was completing a
term paper regarding Mount Prospect. She had three general questions to ask the Village
Board. The first question related to how the renovation of Randhurst Mall was proceeding and
how beneficial that was to the Village. The second question related to diversity in Mount
Prospect and what steps the Village has taken to embrace diversity. Her third question related
to what types of housing opportunities are available for first-time homebuyers and young adults
entering the home market. . The Village Board provided answers to each of these questions.
The meeting adjourned at 10:45 a.m.
Respectfully submitted,
