"NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK"
APRIL 8 -14, 2012
WHEREAS, libraries have historically served as our nation's great equalizers of
knowledge by providing free access to all; and
WHEREAS; libraries work to meet the changing needs of their users, including building
collections, expanding outreach services and increasing programming; and
WHEREAS, our nation's libraries provide a forum for diverse ideas and points of view
that help us better understand each other and ourselves; and
WHEREAS, library staff help people of all ages and backgrounds find and interpret the
information they need to live, learn and work in a challenging economy; and
WHEREAS, librarians design and offer programs to meet their community's economic
needs, providing residents with resume writing classes, interviewing workshops and job
seeking resources; and
WHEREAS, libraries are part of the American dream, places for education, opportunity
and lifelong learning; and
WHEREAS, libraries, librarians, library workers and supporters across America are
celebrating National Library Week.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do
hereby proclaim the week of April 8 -14, 2012 as
"NATIONAL LIBRARY WEEK"
and I encourage all residents to visit the Mount Prospect Public Library this week. You
belong @ your library.

PROCLAMATION
MOUNT PROSPECT /PROSPECT HEIGHTS
RELAY FOR LIFE
MAY 18- 19, 2012
WHEREAS, RELAY FOR LIFE is the signature activity of the American Cancer Society and
celebrates cancer survivors and caregivers, remembers loved ones lost to the disease and
empowers individuals and communities to fight back against cancer; and
WHEREAS, money raised during RELAY FOR LIFE supports the American Cancer
Society's mission of saving lives and creating a world with less cancer and more birthdays —
by helping people stay well, by helping people get well, by finding cures for cancer and by
fighting back; and
WHEREAS, RELAY FOR LIFE is held in twenty -one (21) countries and has raised over
three (3) billion dollars since 1985 to fund patient services, education, research and
advocacy
WHEREAS, over the last five (5) years the Prospect High School RELAY FOR LIFE has
raised over $318,000; in 2011 over fifty (50) teams participated raising over $100,000; and
WHEREAS, Prospect High School RELAY FOR LIFE will hold its sixth (6 annual event
May 18 and 19 with activities to include; an Opening Ceremony, Survivor and Caregiver
laps and dinner; a raffle; community and student entertainment; a Luminaria Ceremony and
teams walking laps around the track for twelve (12) hours; and
WHEREAS, in addition to raising funds the RELAY FOR LIFE events celebrates the lives of
local cancer survivors, remembers friends, family members, co- workers and others who
have lost their lives to cancer and unites our community in the fight against cancer.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Irvana K. Wilks, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect, do hereby
proclaim May 18— 19, 2012 as
"RELAY FOR LIFE DAYS"
In the Village of Mount Prospect and encourage all citizens to support the 2012 RELAY
FOR LIFE event at Prospect High School.
