HomeMy WebLinkAbout01/15/2001 SCC minutesMOUNT PROSPECT SISTER CITIES COMMISSION M'mutes Thursday, January 15, 2001 ATTENDANCE: Larry D'urso, Janice Farley, Skip Farley, Melanie Karsen, Mike Karsen, Dorothy Kucera, Thibaud Le S~guillon, Paul Seils, Adelaide Thulin, Fred Thulin, Rachel Toeppen, Irvana Wilks The meeting was called to order by Dorothy Kucera. Old Business Mayor Farley announced that there was one position open on the Commission. Municipal elections are taking place in S~vres this Spring. Once the elections there and here were over, the Commission would begin to plan visits and make contacts with organizations. New Business It was agreed that the new meeting schedule would be every 2 months. The next meeting was scheduled for March 15 at 5:30 p.m. The schedule will be as follows: May 10, July 12, September 13 and November 8. Janice raised the idea of doing music exchanges. Melanie moved that the "Service Organizations" Committee be changed to "Community Organizations". Adelaide seconded. Melanie talked about wanting to get the letter writing between students started. She will be writing to the principal ora school in S~wes. We need a liaison in France and in the schools here. Melanie has assisted individuals. A trip of students from S~wes will be in the Chicago area January 27 - February 3. They are plauning to come to Mount Prospect on January 31 for a tour of Randhurst. Rachel Toeppen was in attendance at the meeting representing the Historical Society and asked to be put in touch with their counterpart in S~wes. Sister Cities Mamh 16 Barbara resigning as chair Community Band (65 members), Jim Weyrick, Judy Thorne. Planning trip to Sevres this summer. Band visited England in 1997, performed at Birmingham, Will rent instruments. Dorothy - Acting Chair, Community Organizations, anything non-profit. Thiabaud had list of groups in Sevres Adelaide and Carole are working on musical relationships. Work with Chamber to expand interest in business community. Irvana is making presentation to Chamber and Economic Development Commission Melanie - reviewed letter to Francois congratulating him on winning election. Melanie - French teachers' meetings - August vacation time. Thiabaud
