HomeMy WebLinkAbout06/08/2000 SCC minutesMOUNT PROSPECT SISTER CITIES COMMISSION Minutes Thursday, June $, 2000 ATTENDANCE: Carole Bloomquist, Yngve Bloomquist, Larry D'urso, Janice Farley, Skip Farley, Lil Floros, Maura Jandris, Melanie Karsen, M~ke Karsen, Thihaud LeSeguillon, Barbara Persenaire, Paul Seils, Adelaide Thulin, lrvana Wilks The meeting was called to order by Barbara Persenaire at 5:15 p.m. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the meeting of May 8, 2000 were approved (with a spelling correction). o Old Business Carole Bloomquist provided report on banquet (see attachment A). Melanie Karsen thanked Carole for her work on the banquet, and the Floros' for their work on the tours. Barbara Persenaire said that it was impressive to see the Village showcased all at once. Thihaud commented that the number of people at the banquet was very impressive. Mayor Farley thanked Paul Seils of Busse's Flowers and Gifts for the lovely centerpieces at the banquet. The Commission discussed the banquet. The members also reviewed the tours of Mount Prospect and Chicago. Suggestions for the next visit included time for a meeting between Mount Prospect officials and S~vres officials, and showing them more of what American culture was like, not as structured. The Commission determined, though that they had accomplished the original goal which was for the S~wes delegation to meet as many Mount Prospect citizens as they could. Trustee Wilks thanked the Commisison for the opportunity for the Trustees to have dinner with the delegation, and thanked Lil Floros and Carole Bloomquist for their efforts. New Business The Commission members discussed relations and acquaintances that were traveling to France over the summer, and how they were going to try to get to S~vres. The banquet video will be shown on MPTV Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays at 4 p.m. and Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 1 p.m. It was requested that tapes of the visit be sent to S~wes. Next Steps - Melanie Karsen suggested asking groups in the Village to get in touch with S~vres, and that the Commission could help get them together. Melanie reviewed past issues ofLe Sbvrien, the S~wes newsletter to highlight interesting things that had been happening in S~vres. Barbara Persenaire announced that Martha Atherton of the Des Plaines Sister Cities organization would be attending the next meeting to provide some insight into what the Des Plaines organization does. ister Cities Commission Minutes Page 2 Meeting of June 8, 2000 The next meeting of the Commission is scheduled for September 14 at 5:15 p.m. Martha will arrive at 6:00 p.m. Mike Karsen asked Mayor Farley if he had any requests or suggestions for the next steps of the commission. The Mayor stated that Mayor Frangois Kosciusko-Morizet especially wanted to encourage exchanges between children and groups. Janice Farley and Carole Bloomquist volunteered to compile photos of the visit and other mementos into scrapbooks for each city.
