HomeMy WebLinkAbout04/13/2000 SCC minutesMOUNT PROSPECT SISTER CITIES COMMISSION Minutes Thursday, April 13, 2000 ATTENDANCE: Tokiko Blaine, Carole Bloomquist, Yngve Bloomquist, Larry D'urso, Janice Farley, Skip Farley, Leo Floros, Lil Floros, Dorothy Kucera, Maura Jandris, Mike Janonis, Barbara Persenaire, Adelaide Thulin. The meeting was called to order by Barbara Persenaire at 6:10 p.m. Approval of Minutes The minutes of the meeting of March 9, 2000 were approved. Report on Status of Plans for May Visit of S/~vres delegation The host families will pick up their visitors at the airport. Following that, a coffee will be held at the Farlcy's for thc guests and the hosts. Mr. Janonis reported on the reception that will be held at the Senior Center prior to the Village Board meeting. Members of Boards and Commissions have been invited. The Village Manager's office is handling the arrangements for this event. The Village Board meeting start time has been changed to 7:00 p.m. The Police Department Color Guard has been invited to the meeting. Mayor Morizet will sit at the dais with Mayor Farley. Mayor Farley will make a few remarks regarding the Sister City relationship. The agenda for the meeting will be kept short. Following the meeting, the guests, hosts and Village Board will attend a dinner at Jameson's. The manager's office is handling the arrangements for this as well. Leo Floros reviewed the day of the tour of Mount Prospect (Wednesday, May 17). The day will begin with breakfast at Rob Roy at 7:45 a.m. Invitations for the breakfast have been sent. The trolley will depart from Rob Roy at 9:00 a.m. sharp. Leo reviewed the stops on the tour. Lil Floros reported that the Library was donating canvas bags for the visitors. Dorothy Kucera suggested putting together an itinerary for the visitors so they had an idea of what the week would entail. Barbara Persenaire suggested contacting each stop on the tour to provide information so the visitors had some background information. Larry D'urso said the library would put something together. Mr. D'urso also offered to have honorary library cards made for the visitors. Leo said that video and photographs would be taken on the tour and throughout the week. Yngve Bloomquist offered to take people back to their cars at Rob Roy after the tour. Committee members reported on their follow-ups to the banquet invitations. Carole Bloomquist remanded members of the committee to register for the banquet if they had not done so. French and American flags would be used for the centerpieces at the banquet. Pins of the flags would be attached to the front of the program. Carole asked for volunteers to help decorate for the banquet, and for people to help with the nametags. Yngve, Tokiko, and Adelaide volunteered. ister Cities Commission Minutes Page 2 Meeting of April 13, 2000 Janice Farley reported that registration was at 125 people. Lil asked the committee to remind their friends and neighbors about the banquet. Carole explained that display boards of the pictures taken by members of the Commission while in S~wes would be set up. Leo reported that a video of S~wes would be shown as well. Entertainment will be provided by a variety of student musical groups. Leo reported that a bus had been reserved for the Thursday tour of Chicago. Lunch will be at Navy Pier and dinner at the 95t~ at the Hancock Building. Breakfast on Friday, May 19th will be held at Friendship Conservatory at 7:45 a.m. Following breakfast, the guests and others would go directly to the Historical Society for the Signing Ceremony. Rachel Toeppen of the Garden Club is decorating the tables that will be used for the signing. The committee discussed the airport pick-up. It was decided that the hosts would go together in one vehicle (possibly a village van) and get picked up at the airport in limos. Barbara thanked everyone for their hard work. Other Business Barbara informed the Commission of an invitation regarding a Chamber of Commerce charity fundraiser. It was decided that the Commission would not participate, as they were now a commission of the Village and no longer qualified as a non-profit or charity. It was decided the next meeting should be held sooner in preparation for the visit. The next meeting of the Sister Cities Commission will be Monday May 8, 2000.
