HomeMy WebLinkAbout09/23/2004 SCC minutes MOUNT PROSPECT SISTER CITIES COMMISSION Minutes September 23,2004 Members Present: Tokiko Blaine Carole Bloomquist Janice Farley Skip Farley Lil Floros Dorothy Kucera Judy Thome Adelaide Thulin Fred Thulin Judy Thome Rachel Toeppen Members Absent: None Staff Liaison: Maura E1 Metennani The meeting was called to order at 5:32 p.m. Dorothy Kucera requested that a report on the band trip to Sèvres be added to the agenda. Lil Floros moved and Judy Thome seconded that the minutes of the June 17, 2004 minutes be approved. The motion passed. Creating a Foundation The Commission reviewed a ruling from the Village attorney regarding the establishment of a foundation. The attorney determined that the Village has tax-exempt status, therefore it was unnecessary to establish a foundation. Thanksgiving in October The invitations for the "Thanksgiving in October" Banquet on October 28 have been sent out, and reservations were coming in. The subcommittee was scheduled to meet September 30 at 11 :00 a.m. Members discussed an event sponsored by the Elk Grove Sister Cities organization, for which tickets were $70. Band Trip to Sèvres Judy Thome reported on the Band trip to Sèvres. She said they had a wonderful time. She reported that the circle of friendships is growing. Personal home stays have changed a lot of attitudes. 4th of July Parade Carole Bloomquist reported that the parade participation went well, Public Works helped to decorate a truck with a model peace pole. Commission members distributed flyers about Sister Cities along the parade route. Spring Event Plans for a spring event are tentative, perhaps planning something in conjunction with the Sèvres visit. Sèvres Visit Dorothy reported that t subcommittee would need to be formed to begin planning the Sèvres visit here. Commission members wondered if it was appropriate to invite friends from Sèvres to come at this time as well. Rachel Toeppen requested that a quitter be invited so they could do a quilt exchange. The peace pole will be rededicated when the delegation is here. Winter Parade It was suggested that the Commission work together with the Lions Club for the Winter Festival Parade refTeshments. Other Business The Commission talked about ordering t-shirts or sweatshirts for members. The meeting was adjourned at 6:30 p.m.
