A RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE MCDONALD
CREEK FLOOD CONTROL PROJECT (LAKE ARLINGTON)
WHEREAS, it is essential to achieve a greater degree of
protection from stromwater damage and lessen flooding problems
along the McDonald Creek Watershed within the Village of Mount
Prospect; and
WHEREAS, the Village of Arlington Heights has designed and
engineered a 540 acre-feet maximum volume flood control reservoir
that will reduce peak flows downstream at the reservoir and
significantly alleviate flooding and stormwater damage in the
McDonald Creek Watershed; and
WHEREAS, the flood control reservoir which is being constructed
jointly by the Village of Arlington Heights and the City of
Prospect Heights will remove property from the flood plain in the
Village of Mount Prospect under present development conditions;
and
WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect recognizes that the
cooperative effort of multiple jurisdictions can address the
critical flooding problem along McDonald Creek in the most
comprehensive and cost effective manner.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MAYOR AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES
OF THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS, AS
FOLLOWS:
SECTION ONE: That the Village of Mount Prospect strongly
supports the proposed McDonald Creek Flood Control reservoir with
a retention basin of approximately 540 acre-feet of storage with
a 100 cfs bypass and a 135 cfs release rate, as setforth in the
Preliminary Design Memorandum prepared by Harza Environmental
Services, Inc. dated September, 1986.
SECTION TWO: That the Village of Mount Prospect urges the
Metropolitan Sanitary District (MSD), Illinois Department of
Transportation (lOOT) and the Illinois Department of Waterways
(IDOW) to support this worthwhile project and contribute to the
extent possible to insure its development.
SECTION THREE: That a certified copy of this Resolution be
sent to the Village of Arlington Heights and the City of Prospect
Heights for presentation to the MSD, rOOT and IDOW as evidence of
the Village of Mount Prospect's support for the McDonald Creek
Flood Control Project.
SECTION FOUR: That this Resolution shall be in full force and
effect from and after its passage and approval in the manner
provided by law.
