"INTERNATIONAL BUILDING SAFETY WEEK"
APRIL 7-13, 2002
WHEREAS, the safety of the buildings we occupy daily is essential to the health,
safety, and welfare of the citizens of the world; and
WHEREAS, among the world's most fundamental laws are those providing safety
standards for the safe construction of buildings in which people live, work and pIay;
and
WHEREAS, for construction and building codes to be effective and enforced,
understanding and cooperation must exist between code officials and the people they
serve; and
WHEREAS, units of government across the world, along with professional
organizations, are joining together to promote the use of building and construction
codes today, through the observation of International Building Safety Week; and
WHEREAS, the theme of International Building Safety Week 2002 has been
established as "Building Our World... One Community At A Time."
NOW, THEREFORE, I, GeraM L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount Prospect,
do hereby proclaim the week of April 7-13, 2002 as
"INTERJVATIONAL BUILDING SAFETY WEEK"
and I urge all citizens to ])articipate in InternationaI Building Safety Week activities to
help promote buiIding safety, to create awareness as to the importance of construction
and building codes, and to spotlight the role of the dedicated code official in
administering those codes.

"ALCOHOL AWARENESS MONTH"
APRIL, 2002
WHEREAS, underage drinking remains the number one substance abuse problem
among the nation's youth; and
WHEREAS, the use of alcohol is associated with the leading causes of death and
injury among youth, including motor vehicle crashes, homicides and suicides; and
WHEREAS, juvenile crime, violence and poor academic performance are closely
linked with underage drinking; and
WHEREAS, approximately 2/3 of teenagers who drink report that they purchase
their o~vn alcoholic beverages; and
WHEREAS, passage of other laws to reduce underage drinking, and enforcement
of those laws is a community and state responsibility.
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Gerald L. Farley, Mayor of the Village of Mount
Prospect, do hereby join with the Illinois Alcohol Awareness Month campaign, and
proclaim the month of April, 2002 as
"ALCOHOL AWARENESS MONTH"
in Mouut Prospect, and I call upon all citizens in the Village of Mount Prospect to
recognize alcohol use as a serious problem for the youth in our community.
