Entry Level Requirements and Entry Level Exam - Police Department
Discussion was held regarding a memorandum the Commissioners received from the Chief in
which he is requesting an adjustment in the college hours versus a language requirement. If an
applicant can demonstrate fluency in a foreign language, the college requirement would be
reduced by 30 hours. His goal is to widen the pool of applicants and also deal with the language
barrier the department is experiencing. .
Commissioner Brooks asked the Chief to clarify his request regarding the entrance exam. Chief
Eddington said the statistics from the last written test. showed a significant impact on the
minority candidates in the grammar portion of the test. The Chief is requesting permission to
enter into negotiations with Stanard and Associates to revise this portion of the test. There was
a brief discussion.
A motion was made by Commissioner Brooks to authorize negotiations with Stanard and
Associates to study the impact of what we are now doing and what changes should be made.
Seconded by Commissioner Arndt. .
