Coffee with Council Minutes 07/9/2011 MINUTES VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT COFFEE WITH COUNCIL SATURDAY, JULY 9, 2011 9:00 AM Community Room, Village Hall Meeting convened at 9:00 AM. Those present: Mayor Pro Tem John Matuszak, Trustee Steve Polit, Trustee John Korn, Assistant Village Manager Dave Strahl and Fire Chief John Malcolm. Residents in Attendance: Thomas Tezky School Street Jim Chylik Locust Lane Steve and Barbie VanArsdale Can Dota Avenue Carol Tortorello Elmhurst Avenue Ken Koeppen Linnemann Road David Schein South Na Wa Ta Avenue Thomas Tezky provided an update on the damage to his home from the storm last month. His home was reminded Mr. Tezky to contact his insurance company to see if this would be covered by his insurance. Jim Chylik commented on what a great job the Village during the storm last month and wanted to thank everyone for all of their hard work. Mr. Chylik asked about the warning Chief Malcolm explained what occurred and advised those present that we are reviewing siren activation procedures and in fact, there is a meeting on Monday, July 11 to discuss this issue at our dispatch center. Steve and Barbie VanArsdale complimented the Village on what a great job they did during the storm and the clean up following the storm. They also complimented the Village on the Fourth of July parade and fireworks. Carol Tortorello made general comments and said the Fourth of July was great, but did question the haunted house float that was in the parade and said for the parade. Ken Koeppen asked if residents will be allowed to pick up wood chips from the debris left over from the storm last month. Mr. Strahl will contact Public Works and will respond to Mr. Koeppen. Mr. Koeppen also asked about the park district and their budgets to see if they are having the same budget issues as the Village. He was concerned with the amount of papers and candy wrappers around the parks in the Village. David Schein complimented the Village on the storm response. He also mentioned a few of his neighbors complained of damage to their parkway grass from the tree removal company hired by the Village. Mr. Schein advised his neighbors to repair the grass themselves. The meeting was adjourned at 10:00 AM. Respectfully Submitted, John J. Malcolm Fire Chief 1 MOUNT PROSPECT SISTER CITIES COMMISSION Minutes: May 19, 2011 Attendees: Paula Randant, Gary Randant, Lorrie Huber, Mike Karsen, Judy Thorne, John Korn, Skip & Janice Farley, Denise Rano, Rachel Toeppen, Dorothy Kucera, John Sibrava, Irvana Wilks, Mary Ann Sibrava, and guests Kathleen Murray and Mary Smith and Michael Davey and Maura El Metennani. I. The meeting was called to order by Dorothy at 5:40 PM. II. The minutes of the previous meeting were read. Skip Farley moved that the minutes be approved and John Sibrava seconded the motion. The minutes were approved as read. III. Discussion of trip to Sevres. Gifts from the Village were displayed for the Commission. A list of gifts and cost was provided and will be attached to the minutes. Irvana shared emails of Commission members in the travel delegation that had been sent to Sevres. Gift giving to our hosts was discussed. The History of Randhurst written by the Historical Society will be included to the City of Sevres with 8 gifts and trays. There is also a DVD of the City of Mount Prospect that includes the librarians from Sevres on their visit to Mount Prospect. Irvana also reported that we had not received a program /schedule from Sevres yet. It was also noted that Colleen Kelly had to withdraw from the trip to Sevres as her husband was injured. IV. Illinois State Sister Cities Association convention in Tinley Park, Illinois, April 1 and 2, 2011. There was a discussion of events and ideas from members who attended the convention. Several cities in the Association shared program ideas and events results. Those will be shared with the Mount Prospect Commission at future meetings. Dorothy, Rachel, Judy, Mark and Paula attended the convention. Paula Randant was elected to the Illinois State Association Board. Dorothy Kucera is a member of the Illinois State Association Board. The Illinois State Convention will be in Dixon, Illinois next year. Those who attended shared information on people they met and made friendships with for collaboration in the future. V. Committee Reports: a) Judy Thorne reported on the Potluck dinner, April 14, 2011. It was a very successful event. Revenue was $540.00 and expenses were $167.90. b) Mary Ann Sibrava reported on a contest we had entered and did not win. French week at the Library will be July 8 to July 15, 2011. The Library fest will be 7/13/11 from 6:30 to 7:30 PM. Rose will provide a program and Capanaries Ice Cream will provide ice cream. There will be a case display for Bastille Day, July 14 Information on the Book Crossing was shared. A list of books to be read was provided and books are available at the Library. Books will be available in French and English. VI. French Market: Maura El Metennani shared information on the French Market. It will be held September 18, 2011 at the Farmers Market in downtown Mount Prospect. Details to follow. VII. Denise Rano shared information on a possible 'Tea with Napoleon'. Denise shared her ideas and some discussion ensued. A motion was made by Skip Farley to accept Denise's proposal of a small test run event in her home. It was seconded by Lorrie Huber and the motion was passed. VIII. Maura Reschke will chair the Wine Tasting November 10, 2011 at Vino 100. VIX. Discussion: Mike Karsen would like to donate some French books and Lions Raffle tickets to be used at our events for prizes. Dorothy and Irvana shared that Cindy Kiel has tendered her resignation from the Commission. John Korn shared ideas for raffle /fund raising activities.
