HomeMy WebLinkAbout07/16/2009 SCC MinutesMOUNT PROSPECT SISTER CITIES COMMISSION Minutes: July 16, 2009 Attendees: Paula Randant, Dorothy Kucera, Judy Thorne, Mike Karsen, Denise Rano, Mary Ann Sibrava, Lorrie Huber, Rachel Toeppen, John Korn, John Sibrava. Not Attending: Skip & Janice Farley, Cindy Kiel, Gary Randant, Maura Reschke, Paul Seils, Irvana Wilks I. The meeting was called to order by Dorothy Kucera at 5:35 PM. II. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. III. Final reports of Sevre visit. — Welcome, Parade, Barbecue, Navy Pier -boat, visit to Police and Fire etc, Botanical Gardens, Baseball game to Flyers, all discussed. There are rain check tickets available (39), call John Sibrava. Chicago visit and boat tours including Architecture tour, all went well. Library event went well with good attendance. It was a meet the people event. Milwaukee visit to Miller plant and cycle plant went well. Oak Park visit went well. Victoria in the Park Dinner well attended and went well. Microphones were a problem. Final party at Randant's went well and a good time was had by all, Sunday morning Mass at Holy Family went well, the Trolley took everyone down and dropped everyone back at their hotel. The visit was a great success. IV. The Fourth of July parade was discussed. Paula and Mike walked with the Kart driven by village employee. Suggestion was made to have more walkers and Sister City T shirts. V. July 15 Library function, Mary Ann reported that 75 people attended. There were 100 pre- registrations and 49 of the 100 attended. Turnout was OK. There were 40 kids and 20 parents, some seniors showed up but the activity was a preschool activity. Language Stars did the program but did not show up until 10 minutes before the event. It was the Hungry Caterpillar in French. There was a craft table, storytelling and games. VI. The French Market will be September 13, 2009. Denise has arranged for several venders the event was great last year. Volunteers are needed for the day. It is at the Farmers Market from 8 am to fpm. Dorothy and Denise are making Sache's. VII. Future events were discussed. French week Nov 4th to the 10 and a Wine tasting in November as well. Other possible events and fund raisers were discussed. (Boce ball and a French film night were discussed.) The Palatine Sister Cities group is holding a Friendship Walk on October 24 We may want to support them.
