Northwest Highway Mount Prospect, Illinois 0005E BOARD OF FIRE AND POLICE COMMISSIONERS MINUTES August 1, 2006 Public Safety Building Fire Administrative Conference Room, 2nd Floor Chairman McKillop called the meeting to order at 6:15 p.m. Roll Call: Robert McKillop, Chairman John Arndt, Commissioner Clyde Brooks, Commissioner Marie Cotten, Secretary Absent: George Busse, Commissioner Present: Richard Eddington, Chief of Police Michael Figolah, Fire Chief Phone 847/870 -5056 APPROVAL OF MINUTES A motion was made by Commissioner Brooks and seconded by Commissioner Cotten to accept the minutes of the June 6, 2006, Open Meeting. Voice vote: Ayes: Arndt, Brooks, Cotten, McKillop Nays: None Motion carried A motion was made by Commissioner Brooks and seconded by Commissioner Arndt to accept the minutes of the June 19, 2006, Open Meeting. Voice vote: Ayes: Arndt, Brooks, Cotten, McKillop Nays: None Motion carried A motion was made by Commissioner Arndt and seconded by Commissioner Brooks to accept the minutes of the July 5, 2006, Open Meeting. Voice vote: Ayes: Arndt, Brooks, Cotten, McKillop Nays: None Motion carried CLOSED SESSION A motion was made by Commissioner Brooks and seconded by Commissioner Cotten to go into Closed Session to approve the minutes of the June 6, 2006 meeting. Roll Call: Ayes: Arndt, Brooks, Cotten, McKillop Nays: None Motion carried The Board reconvened with everyone present. POLICE DEPARTMENT UPDATE Police oral interviews were discussed. The interviews will take place on August 14 15 and 16 The Chief asked the Board to approve letters that will be sent to everyone who took the written test providing them with their results. The Commissioners approved the letters. The Chairman asked the Chief to extend the Board's thanks to Deputy Chief Semkiu, the recruiters and everyone that worked on the test. The Chief also thanked the Chairman for being at the test. Chief Eddington reported Officer Francisco Cornejo graduated from the academy and is now in field training with Officer Kerrigan. Page 2 Minutes 8/1/06 FIRE DEPARTMENT UPDATE Chief Figolah reported that one firefighter has resigned. The Chief asked the Board to approve the reading list for the Lieutenant's test. After a short discussion, the Board agreed to approve the list. A motion was made by Commissioner Arndt and seconded by Commissioner Brooks to accept Chief Figolah's recommendation. Roll Call: Ayes: Arndt, Brooks, Cotten, McKillop Nays: None Motion carried The Chief discussed the Firefighter /Paramedic New Hire test with the Board. The applications for Firefighter /Paramedic are ready to be distributed. The written exam will be held on September 9` He also recommended changing Firefighter III to Firefighter II in Section 8.F of the BOFPC Rules and Regulations. A motion was made by Commissioner Arndt and seconded by Commissioner Brooks to change Section 8.F from Firefighter III to Firefighter II. Voice Vote: Ayes: Arndt, Brooks, Cotten, McKillop Nays: None Motion carried Chief Figolah left the meeting. CORRESPONDENCE Chairman McKillop discussed with the Board information he received from a testing agency. OTHER BUSINESS The Board reviewed and discussed the oral interview questions for the police department. They also discussed having someone from the police department present for the interviews. A motion was made by Commissioner Arndt and seconded by Commissioner Cotten that the Fire & Police Commissioners will do the oral interviewing of all future candidates separate from any Police and Fire personnel being present in the room to take notes. The subsequent investigations can be done after we submit the test scores to them and they do the background investigations.
