On Tuesday March 15, 2011 the Village Manager, Assistant Village Manager and Village Attorney met
with representatives from American Multi- Cinema (AMC) to discuss AMC's request for a Class "S -5"
liquor license. The Class "S -5" license provides for the service of alcohol in a movie theater setting.
Present at the meeting were AMC representatives Senior Vice President George Patterson, U.S.
Operations Director Scott Stipsits, Director of Operations Donald Liberati, Food & Beverage Director Scott
Parrott, Site Manager Tabitha Hilbun, Regional Manager Morgan Mucha and Attorney Irene Bahr.
AMC is currently set to open a new, State of the Art, 12 screen digital multiplex as part of the Randhurst
Village redevelopment project. Soft opening events are scheduled to begin on April 18, 2011; with a
grand opening to the general public on April 29. The existing AMC theatre at Randhurst will then close
and the site will be redeveloped for other retail uses.
Previously, the Village's Liquor Code (Chapter 13) did not provide for a license category permitting the
sale of alcohol in a movie theater setting. On April 6, 2011 the Village Board amended Chapter 13 and
created the Class "S -5" category. The text, definitions and service controls of the Class "S -5" category are
attached as Exhibit 1.
The Village Manager discussed at length with AMC representatives the Village's particular sensitivity to
the sale of alcohol to minors, over - service to intoxicated individuals and the potential for the illegal
transfer of alcohol to minors.. The Village Manager indicated that AMC was responsible for the actions
of all employees and managers. Mr. Janonis also covered the Village's Fight Ordinance requirements
with AMC representatives. All managers, employees and monitors have, or will receive certified liquor
server training as a condition of issuing the license. AMC representatives indicated they understand the
dynamics of this new classification and their responsibility as a license holder.
A completed application as well as all other required documentation is on file. All managers have
submitted to background checks and fingerprints in association with the AMC liquor license. If the Village
Board views this application favorably, an Ordinance creating a new Class "S -5" liquor license would
need to be adopted.
