Gillespie -- After a short discus.sion, it was agreed that the ~iltage Clerk be asked tow rite an a~swer, stating that this matter is under consid- eration and that he wittbe advised in the near future. Clerk Reynolds read the following letter from the NortheaSt Home Owners Association: - October 24, 1959 To the President and Board'of Trustees Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois Gentlemen: NE Homeowners On behalf of many of our members and other residents living re school along East Central Road, we wish te call your attention to the need children for additional protection for the children of St. Paul, Busse and crossing Central Schools who must cross Central Road. We understand that the Central Rd school officials have instructed the children to cross at William, School and Emerson Streets where the Village has posted crossing guards, and that the police department has occasionally posted a squad car to see that the children cross at the proper points. In spite of this, many children insist on crossing at Louis, Owen, Elm, Maple and other unguarded points with great danger to themselves, due to the SS-mile per hour speed limit along Central Road. It should also be brought to your attention that the high spot in Central Road, existing at Louis Street, is an.additional hazard. Motorists, strange to the area, drivin~ west on Central Road are not aware that they are approaching the school crossing point at William Street. Recently the Northeast Home Owners Association Conunittee on Central Road asked President R. A. Schiller of the School Board to have a safety survey made for this area along East Central Road. At their September meeting the Beard decided that this was a matter for the Village Board but they were in agreement with our co~ittee that a safety survey was needed. Therefore, for the reasons stated above, we wish to ask that the Village Board of Mount Prospect request the State Highway Depart- ment for permission to post 20 MPH speed limit signs east of William Street and west of School Street on East Central Read, and that a safety survey be made at Village expense to determine whether stop signs, or any other precautions, are needed to protect the hundreds of children from St. Paul, Busse and Central Schools crossing Central Road. Yours truly, Karl Krembs, Pres. After a short discussion, it was agreed to refer this matter to the Village Manager, asking him to get estimate of cost for such survey. Mr. Otto Zaccone, ?O1 Lonnquist, arose. He represents interests County Zoning of Mr. DiMucci, the builder. Mr. Zaccone asked the reason for the Case 2084-2085 village.'s disapproval on County ZoniB~ Cases 2084-2085 mentioned in Di Mucci last week's minutes. This called fora gas station, restaurant and roller rink. He was told that there was the question of possible liquor license for the restaurant, and the possibility that the roller October 27, 1959 ink might be too close to future high school property. Mr. Zac~one replied that any possible liquor license would be handled by the County, and that he considered a roller rink as a clean and healthy place for young people. The Board told Mr. Zaccone that they would withdraw their objections if he would secure a letter from High School District 214 stating that they had no objections to the roller rink. He said he would do this. Trustee Casterline, seconded by Trustee Airey, moved for adjournment. This motion carried by acclamtien, and the meeting was regularly adjourned by 8:50 P.M. Respectfully submitted, · · t ey~ October 27, 1959
