JULY 4TM PARADE
THE YOUTH COMMISSION MEMBERS PARTICIPATED IN THE JULY 4TM PARADE. THANK YOU NOTES TO
BE WRITTEN AT NEXT MEETING TO THOSE WHO HELPED WITH THE PREPARATIONS.
YOUTH VIEW
TWO YOUTH VIEW PROGRAMS WERE FILMED IN JUNE FOR VIEWING IN JULY AND AUGUST. MR.
CLOWES TO GET A COPY OF THE PROGRAMS FOR THE YOUTH COMMISSION TO VIEW. DISCUSSION
WAS HELD REGARDING THE POSSIBLE DATE FOR THE NEXT TAPING-AUGUST 14, 2001, IF AVAILABLE,
FUTURE SHOW POSSIBILITIES-SHOPLIFTING, PEER JURY, RANDHURST MALL, DRUGS AND MUSIC,
HOME SCHOOL VS. PUBLIC SCHOOL VS. PRIVATE SCHOOL, AND POTENTIAL GUESTS FOR THE
PROGRAMS. SARAH CORCORAN IN CHARGE OF THE YOUTH VIEW PROGRAM.
COMMUNITY CENTER
CHAIRMAN BYRNE BROUGHT UP FOR DISCUSSION THE YOUTH COMMISSION'S POSITION ON THE
COMMUNITY CENTER. A/A LOHRSTORFER ADVISED THERE WILL BE A COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE AND
SATURDAY MEETINGS IN THE NEAR FUTURE FOR DISCUSSION ON THE COMMUNITY CENTER. A/A
LOHRSTORFER TO ADVISE CHAIRMAN BYRNE OF THE DATES WHEN AVAILABLE.
PUBLICITY COMMITTEE
CHAIRMAN BYRNE, JULIE MARKUS AND KAREN HUANG HAVE BEEN MEETING TO DISCUSS UPDATING
THE VARIOUS YOUTH COMMISSION DOCUMENTS AND WEBSITE. A MEETING WITH MAURA JANDRIS ON
JULY 27, 2001 AT 10:00 A.M. WILL BE HELD TO GET ADVICE AND SUGGESTIONS FOR THE YOUTH
COMMISSION BROCHURES AND WEBSITE.
THE RESOURCE CATALOG WAS DIVIDED BETWEEN YOUTH COMMISSION MEMBERS TO UPDATE THE
INFORMATION PRIOR TO THE MEETING WITH MAURA JANDRIS. LAURA HIGGINSON TO COLLECT ALL
INFORMATION BY JULY 23, 2001.

YOUTH COMMISSION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE "DOWNTOWN BLOCK PARTY~' ON SATURDAY, JULY 28,
2001 FROM 4:00 P.M. - 9:00 P.M.
NEW BUSINESS
YOUTH COMMISSION PHONE NUMBER
A/A NAGEL DISCUSSED THE MATTER OF KEEPING THE YOUTH COMMISSION PHONE NUMBER.
MEMBERS DECIDED TO KEEP THE LINE WITH THE UPCOMING PUBLICITY CAMPAIGN. ALL YOUTH
COMMISSION INCOMING PHONE CALLS WILL GO TO A/A NAGEL AS OF JULY 11, 2001. A/A NAGEL TO
INQUIRE IF IT IS POSSIBLE FOR CALLS TO BE DIRECTED TO CHAIRMAN BYRNE SO ALL CALLS ARE
RESPONDED TO IN A TIMELY MANNER.
YOUTH COMMISSION BUDGET
MEMBERS DISCUSSED SOME OF THE PLANNED EXPENSES FOR THE COMING YEAR:
· A/A GILLIGAN DISCUSSED CREATING A DISPLAY BOARD ADVERTISING YOUTH COMMISSION
ACTIVTIES TO DISPLAY AT AREA EVENTS.
· A/A BUSSE SUGGESTED DINNER MEETINGS DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR.
· THE PRINTING OF YOUTH COMMISSION BROCHURES, FLYERS, NEWSLETTERS, ETC.
MOTION: TO KEEP THE YOUTH COMMISSION BUDGET OF $2,000.00.

YOUTH COMMISSION ELECTIONS
CHAIRMAN BYRNE BROUGHT UP THE YOUTH COMMISSION ELECTIONS FOR THE COMING YEAR. A/A
SCHEIN SUGGESTED AN OPTION OF SETTING UP A COMMITTEE FOR ELECTIONS. A/A LOHRSTORFER
ADVISED APPOINTMENTS COULD BE MADE AS WELL. AFTER A DISCUSSION BY MEMBERS IT WAS
DECIDED THE CURRENT CHAIRMAN, NICOLE BYRNE, AND CO-CHAIRMAN, JULIE AND LAURA HIGGINSON
WOULD CONTINUE IN THEIR POSITIONS. CHAIRMAN BYRNE APPOINTED SARAH CORCORAN AS
HISTORIAN. THREE INTERESTED MEMBERS EXPRESSED INTEREST IN THE TREASURER POSITION AND
IT WAS DECIDED AN ELECTION FOR THE POSITION OF TREASURER WOULD BE HELD AT THE AUGUST
MEETING.
MOTION: TO APPOINT SARAH CORCORAN AS HISTORIAN OF THE YOUTH COMMISSION.

MOTION: TO ELECT TREASURER OF THE YOUTH COMMISSION AT THE AUGUST MEETING.

JUNIOR HIGH SCHOOL VISITS
CHAIRMAN BYRNE AND JULIE MARKUS BROUGHT UP FOR DISCUSSION THE POSSIBILITY OF YOUTH
COMMISSION MEMBERS GOING INTO THE LOCAL JUNIOR HiGH SCHOOLS TO TALK TO KIDS ABOUT
DRUGS. MEMBERS AGREED AND THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD IDEA OF OLDER KIDS TALKING TO
YOUNGER KIDS. THE IDEA OF MAKING A UNIQUE PRESENTATION TO SMALLER GROUPS IN THE 6TM AND
7TM GRADE LEVEL WAS THOUGHT TO BE A WAY OF GETTING THEIR ATTENTION. SUBJECT TO BE
DISCUSSED IN GREATER DETAIL AT THE NEXT FEW MEETINGS. AN INVITATION TO BE SENT TO
OFFICER FRIENDLY BILL ROSCOP TO SPEAK TO THE YOUTH COMMISSION ON WAYS TO
SUCCESSFULLY DISCUSS THIS TOPIC.

YOUTH COMMISSION PRESS RELEASE
A/A SCHEIN SUGGESTED UPON COMPLETION OF THE ELECTION AT THE AUGUST MEETING, A PRESS
RELEASE SHOULD BE RELEASED ANNOUNCING OFFICERS FOR THE YEAR.
VILLAGE BOARD MEETING
YOUTH COMMISSION IS SCHEDULED TO PRESENT THEIR ANNUAL REPORT AT THE JULY 17, 2001
