Upon roll call: Ayes: Bickley Bruhl Ekren Casterline Pass: Gaw, Phillips Motion carried. Trustee Bruhl, seconded by Trustee Ekren, moved for passage of the following bills: bills General $12,510.64 Garbage 93.76 Parking System R~venue 51.34 Library 1,307.79 Fire Equip. Trustee Bruhl, Seconded by Trustee Gaw~ moved that the Financial Treasurer's Financial Report for the month of June, 1962 be accepted Report as submitted and placed for audit. Trustee Ekren, seconded by Trustee Bickley, moved for the passage of Ord. #838: Ord. #838 Zoning AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT ZONING ORDINANCE RELATING TO PROPERTY LOCATED AT THE SOUTHWEST CORNER OF RTES. 83 and 58. Upon roll call: Ayes: Bickley Bruhl Ekren Phillips Gaw Casterline Motion carried. This ordinance refers to Zoning Case 62-18. Trustee Ekren, seconded by Trustee Bickley, moved for the passage of Ord. #839: Ord. #839 zoning AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT ZONING ORDINANCE RELATING TO PROPERTY LOCATED ON THE SOUTHEAST CORNER OF PROSPECT ROAD AND WILSIAM STREETS Upon roll call: Ayes: Bickley Bruhl Cas~erline Ekren Gaw Phillips Motion carried. This ordinance refers to Zoning Case 62-20. July 17, 1962 eller Creek President Schlaver requested Trustee Parker Ekren as head of the Judiciary Committee and Attorney Edward Hofert to attend meeting in Springfield regarding Weller Creek. Both indicated they would attend. Fire Dept. Trustee Phillips, seconded by Trustee Bruhl, moved to personnel increase the Fire Department by five paid firemen from the present seven members to twelve, not including the Fire Chief. Upon roll call: Ayes: Bickley Bruhl Casterline Ekren Gaw Phillips ~-~ Motion carried. Attorney Hofert explained that three firemen who have already passed the examination can~be hired immediately, and two others selected after they have also passed the examination. Fire Dept. Trustee Phillips read letter from Mrs. Joseph Marsiglia expressing gratitude to t~e Fire Department for their quick action in response to a call when her daughter suddenly became ill last June 23rd. P61ice Dept. Trustee Bickley read aloud report from Chief Whittenberg regarding capture of wanted burglar July 16th by Sergeant Glascock and OfficerHachmeister. Trustee Bickley, seconded by Trustee Bruhl, moved that the Village Board commend Sgt. Glascock a~d Officer Hachmeister; that this commendation be made part of the record of this Board and that the Chief be asked to make appropriat~ notation in h~s records of this excellent pollee work. This motion carried by acclamation. Trees and President: Sc~laver~ spoke of the debatable question of birds spraying for the elm disease and for insects as brought up by letter from Kenneth Marble mentioned on P. 551 minutes. He explained that ~ the village has been following the advice of Nels Johnson, tree expert, and the University of Illinois in this, and in doing so, most of our elm trees have been successfully saveS~ However, as there seemed to be quite a bit of controversy, especially regarding the deaths of birds and health of humans, he is now asking for the names of three individuals to serve on an advisory committee, one to be a forestry expert, the second an entomologist and the third a physician. Trustee Gaw replied that this decision was all right with his committee. O'Hare Field President Schlaver~reported that the mayors of Park Ridge and Des Plaines had gone to Washington to discuss the takeoff and landing patterns of jet planes from O'Hare Airport, and that he had sent his views regarding this noise by letter. Signs The chair redognized Mr. Thelander, architect f~om Peter Tsollnas' office, who submitted sketch showing proposed improvement of store buildings on 105-107 South Main owned by Mr. Wm. J. Busse of 100 S. Louis. Mr. Busse the~upon requested variation of sign and building ordinance to allo~ extra overhang of slotted canopy over sidewalk. The Board agreed that the sketch showed a desirable improve- Trustee Casterline, seconded by Trustee Bickley~ moved to allow variation of sign ordinance for a 4-5 foot overhanging canopy at i 105-117 South Main; also that the Village be protected by insurance ~ for any accident due to unnatural accumulation of water~ and that Mr. Busse sign agreement to remove or to repair said canopy if not maintained in good order. Upon roll call: Ayes: Bickley Bruhl Casterline Ekren Gaw Phillips Motion carried. July 17, 1962 r. Wm. Busse stated that he fully intended to keep the canopy in Signs good repair and was perfectly willing to add the Village as insured to the insurance policy. Village Manager Appleby reported that the street sweeper is in Street Dep~ a very bad state of repair; he would like to receive bids for rental- purchase of such equipment. President Sehlaver referred to the Street Committee the preparation of specifications for street sweeping equipment. Mr. Appleby reported that meeting with the architects, Peterson $ Village Wengerhoff~ and Custer Construction Co., was set up for Thursday morning Ha!~ at 8:30 A.M. to discuss the finishing touches to the building. Mr. Appleby reported on conference held by the State Traffic Highway Department regardng uniform traffic signs, attended by Street SuperVisor Willard Voss, Chief George Whittenberg and himself. Requirements which are in the process of being established by the new state traffic manual were pointed out and discussed. The Village has until 1966 to comply with these requirements. The question of identification signs for large areas and Signs allowance for them in the Sign Ordinance was referred to the Building Committee and the attorney for study. Trustee Bruhl, seconded by Trustee Ekren, moved for passage of the annual appropriation ordinance, #840: Ord. #840 Appropriation AN ORDINANCE making Appropriations to defray the expenses of the Village of Mount Prospect for municipal purposes designated as the "Annual Appropriation Bill" for the period beginning May 1, 1962 and ending April 30, 1963. Upon roll call: Ayes: Bickley Bruhl Ekren Phillips Gaw Casterline Motion carried.
