HomeMy WebLinkAbout05/18/1948 VB minutes so / , MINUTES OF A SPECIAL MEETING OF THE PRESIDENT AND BOARD OF TRUSTEES HELD IN THE VILLAGE HALL, MOUNT PROSPECT, ILLINOIS ON TUESDAY, MAY 18, 1948. The meeting was called to order by President Pendleton at 7 :45 P.M. The Clerk called the roll and the following Trustees responded: Bayne, Bydal, Hartwig, Lams, and Mott. Trustee Welsh was absent. The following communication was then read: RECOMMENDATION AND ESTIMATE OF COST FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF ELMHURST ROAD, RUSSELL STREET and OTHER STREETS WITHIN THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS. May 18, 1948 To the President and 81 Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois. Gentlemen: We herewith submit an Ordinance for the improvement of Elmhurst Road, Russell Street and other streets within the Village of Mount Prospect, Cook County, Illinois, by grading, curbing and pav- ing and by constructing all necessary storm sewers, drains, manholes and catch basins, together with all necessary connections, adjustments and other appur- tenances, together with an estimate of the cost of said improvements, including a sum not to exceed six per cent (6%) of said estimated cost to be applied towards the making and collecting the assessment as is by law provided, and recommend the passage of said Ordinance and the making of said improvement contemplated therein. Mott The Clerk then read an ordinance entitled: "AN ORDINANCE FOR THE IMPROVEMENT OF ELMHURST ROAD, RUSSELL STREET, AND OTHER STREETS WITHIN THE VILLAGE OF MOUNT PROSPECT, COOK COUNTY, ILLINOIS, BY GRADING, CURBING AND PAVING, ETC. INCLUDING THE COST OF FUR - NISHING ALL LABOR, EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL. The motion was made by Trustee Mott, second- ed by Lams, that the ordinance be passed. The President put the question and the Clerk called the roll with following results: Ayes: All; Nays: None; Thereupon, the President declared the motion carried and said ordinance passed and approved. A motion was made by Trustee Mott, seconded by Bydal that Consoer, Townsend, and Associates be in- structed to prepare a change order covering change in roof construction on the new Municipal Building, as a further additive in the amount of $630.00. The Presi- put the question and the Clerk called the roll with the following results: Ayes: All; Nays: None. There- upon the President declared the motion carried. A motion was then made by Trustee Lams, seconded by Mott, that the Village Engineers be in- , structed to prepare a change order covering addi- tional cost of red -wood paneling in the Council Chambers; also framing of openings with suitable material, in both the Council Chambers and Community Room of the new Municipal Building. The President put the question and the Clerk called the roll with the following results: Ayes: All; Nays: None. There- upon the President declared the motion carried. May 18, 1948 82 A motion was then made by Trustee Mott, second- ed by Lams, that the Village Engineers be instructed to prepare a change order to include one balanced fire escape on the north side of the new Municipal Building. The President put the question and the Clerk called the roll with the following results: Ayes: All; Nays: None. There- upon the President declared the motion carried. The motion was then made by Trustee Lams, second- ed by Hartwig, that the Village Engineers be instructed to prepare a change order covering suitable identification of the Fire Department section of the new Municipal Building, es a further additive in the amount of $75.00. The Presi- dent put the cuestion and the Clerk called the roll with __ the following results: Ayes: All; Nays: None. Thereupon the President declared the motion carried. N.� A motion was made by Trustee Bydal, seconded by Bayne, that the Village Engineers be instructed to prepare a change order covering additional lettering in stone over the entrance of the new Municipal Building; to read MOUNT PROSPECT MUNICIPAL BUILDING; as a further additive in the amount of $26.00. The President put the question and the Clerk called the roll with the following results: Ayes: A11; Nays: None. Thereupon the President declared the motion carried. The following communication from Axel Lonnquist, Builder, dated May 18th, 1948 was then read. Mr. Maurice Pendleton, President, Village of Mt. Prospect, Ilis. Mt. Prospect, Ills. Deer Sir: This will be your authority to authorize payment to Milburn Brothers, Inc., the sum of $10,588.00 for grading, drainage and paving work on Hi Lusi Avenue and Sunset Trail in Lonnquist Gardens Subdivision in Mt. Prospect, I11.; said payment to be made from funds on deposit in the Mt. Prospect State Bank, all as provided in a contract with Milburn Brothers, Inc. and Axel Lonnquist under date of October 14, 1947. It is our understanding that the work for which this partial payment estimate is being made has been approved and accepted by Consoer, Townsend and Associates, Village Engineers and recommended for payment by them. This approval is subject also to your agreement to maintain these streets without lia- bility to us in any form. Axel Lonnquist, Builder By William J. Lonnquist, Atty. in Fact. A motion was then made by Trustee Mott, seconded by Bayne, that payment to Milburn Bros. Inc., be authorized as per letter, provided the last ph of the letter is deleted by Axel Lonnauist, Builder. The President put the question and the Clerk called the roll with the following results: Ayes: All; Nays: None. Thereupon the President de- clared the motion carried. The clerk then reed an ordinance entitled: "AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE SALE OF SALACIOUS AND INDECENT COMIC BOOKS AND LITERATURE." The motion was made by Trustee Hartwig, seconded by Lams, that the ordinance be passed. The President put the question and the Clerk called the roll with the following results: Ayes: All; Nays: None. There- upon the President declared the motion carried and said ordi- nance passed and approved. A letter dated May 18, 1948 from Henry E. Steele, Attorney, requesting foreclosure proceedings on various lots listed was then read. This matter was referred to the Judi- ciary Committee. May 18, 1948 The motion was made by Trustee Hartwig, seconded by Lams, that the meeting be adjourned. The motionwas voted upon by acclamation, whereupon the President declared the motion carried and the meeting regularly adjourned.
