INTEROFFICE MEMORANDUM
TO: MAYOR IRVANA WILKS
BOARD OF TRUSTEES
FROM: MICHAEL E. JANONIS
DATE: SEPTEMBER 3, 2010
RE: LIMITS ON LOCAL CONTROL OF POLITICAL SIGNS
At the July 6, 2010 Village Board meeting, the Board considered an ordinance that would
bring our local code in compliance with a recent State Statute that limits a municipality's
ability to restrict the time frame in which political signs could be displayed on residential
properties. The ordinance presented at the July 6 Board meeting also included the lifting
of time limitations for political signs on commercial property.
At that meeting, the Village Board determined that it was in the best interest of the
community to maintain the time limitations with regard to commercial properties. This
revised ordinance follows that direction.
Staff recommends adoption of the revised ordinance.
