RESOLUTION PERTAINING TO THE
PROPOSED INCREASE IN GASOLINE Fa -5 )
TAX.

WHEREAS, the General Assembly of the State of Illinois
now in session is contemplating an increase in the gasoline
tax; and
WHEREAS, it appears that the deplorable conditions of
our State highways are caused by heavy trucks who do not pay
commensurate fees with those operating automobiles upon said
highways; and
WHEREAS, it appears that a large percentage of the
trucks used on the highways are Deisel operated; and
WHEREAS, the operators of automobiles are now heavily
burdened with taxation and are bearing the greatest burden in
(providing funds for the maintenance and construction of highways;
NOW, THEREFORE, Be It Resolved by the President and

oard of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect, Cook County,
Illinois:
1 SECTION 1. That this Pillage Board is opposed to any
,increase in gasoline tax in the State of Illinois unless the
operators of trucks using said highways pay larger fees as their
roportionate share of the cost of maintenance of the highways
d not place the entire burden upon the operators of private

utomobiles.
SECTION 2. That a certified copy of this Resolution be
orwarded to the Honorable Adlai E. Stevenson, Governor of the
state of Illinois; the Honorable Arthur J. Bidwell; the Honorable
i :ernice T. Van der Vries, the Honorable Arthur A. Sprague and the
►.onorable Swett Me Grath.
