attend every meeting. If you are unable to attend a meeting, please contact an Adult Advisor
by phone or by e-mail, 24 hours prior to the meeting. In an emergency, you may call the
meeting room at the Mount Prospect Police and Fire Headquarters at 847- 818 -5337 at the
time of the meeting.

MOUNT PROSPECT YOUTH COMMISSION MINUTES
CALL TO ORDER
Chairman Pro Tem Adam Kiel called the June 02, 2010 Youth Commission meeting to order at 7:29 p.m. in the
first floor training room of the Police and Fire Headquarters, Mount Prospect, Illinois.
ROLL CALL
Secretary Cindy Rumore called the roll.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Alex Oplawski, seconded by Delanie Steinweg, moved to approve the minutes of the April 07, 2010 Youth
Commission meeting. Motion carried by unanimous approval.
Alex Oplawski, seconded by Rabia Memon, moved to approve the minutes of the May 05, 2010 Youth
Commission meeting. Motion carried by unanimous approval.
VISITORS TO BE HEARD
Kevin Druffel, prospective new member from John Hersey High School and member of Peer Jury, asked what
the functions of the Youth Commission are and what happens at monthly meetings. Adult advisors discussed the
Youth Commission, Committees, and issues members are currently working on.
Officer Alison Teevan, Youth Officer with the Mount Prospect Police Department, attended the meeting and
introduced herself to members of the Youth Commission.
ISSUES COMMITTEE:
Officer Anthony Addante, Adult Advisor, George Clowes, Adult Advisor
Adult Advisor George Clowes to follow up with the placement of survey boxes at various public locations and
gather completed surveys. Mr. Clowes discussed mailing surveys to youth organizations in the community at a
future date.
YOUTH RESOURCE CATALOG COMMITTEE:
Steven Polit, Adult Advisor, Patti Walpole, Adult Advisor
Nora Gawlik, Adam Kiel, Rachel Otte, Merrily Ruetsche
The Youth Resource Catalog has been completed and is available on the Village website.
PUBLIC RELATIONS COMMITTEE:

Adult Advisor David Schein stated the display board needs to be put together and suggested completing it at a
future committee meeting. Members encouraged to submit any applicable materials for placement on the display
board to the Committee.

The Youth Commission budget was updated for members.

OLD BUSINESS
VILLAGE COMMISSION / ORGANIZATION MEETINGS
Adult Advisor Steven Polit encouraged members to choose a Village commission / organization meeting to
attend and report on youth related issues at the July meeting.
YOUTH VIEW
Adult Advisor George Clowes advised the May Youth View taping, with former Youth Commission members
Alyssa Hillman, Nicole Logisz, and Steve Long discussing their college experience and advice for seniors
heading to college, was rescheduled to June 16 due to a scheduling conflict.
FOOD PURCHASE ROTATION
Rabia Memon volunteered for the food purchase for the July meeting.
NEW BUSINESS
YOUTH COMMITTION MEETING
Youth Commission members discussed having meetings the first and third Wednesday of each month throughout
the year for Committees to complete their work for the month.
Delanie Steinweg, seconded by Alex Oplawski moved to add an additional Youth Commission working meeting
the third Wednesday of the month. Motion carried by unanimous approval.
ORIENTATION MEETING
Adult Advisors will be conducting a short 10 minute, individual orientation meeting with current Youth
Commission members to discuss Youth Commission rules, procedures, and issues on Wednesday, June 09, 2010
at 7:00 p.m. at the Mount Prospect Public Library.
,JULY 4 111 EVENTS
Adult Advisor Steven Polit advised Youth Commission members of opportunities for interested Youth
Commission members to help the Lion's Club with their festival on July 01, 02, 03, and 04, 2010 at Melas Park.
The Youth Commission will also have a booth to pass out Youth Commission information. Interested members
to contact Adult Advisor Steven Polit with dates they are available to help.
"NATIONAL NIGHT OUT"
The Mount Prospect Police Department Crime Prevention Unit will be hosting Mount Prospect's "National
Night Out" family event on Tuesday, August 03, 2010 from 6:30 p.m. — 9:00 p.m. at River Trails Park District,
1500 East Euclid Avenue. Interested Youth Commission members should contact Officer Friendly Greg Sill at
847 - 870 -5650 to assist the Crime Prevention Unit with the event. The Youth Commission is also invited to set
up a booth to distribute Youth Commission information for interested youth attending the event.

Meeting Minutes- Saturday, June 5, 2010
CALL TO ORDER: Dawn Fletcher Collins called the meeting to order at 9:03 a.m.
Present: Sandy DiCaro, Janice Farley, Jill Friedrichs, Christina Greco, Linda Hoefert, Kathy
Janonis, Jim Uszler, Teresa VanOpdorp
Absent: Dale Draznin, Eileen Gattas, Martha Helm, Mike Janonis, Paul Seils
APPROVAL OF MINUTES: Motion made by Christina Greco to approve the minutes from the
May 26, 2010 meeting, seconded by Kathy Janonis.
FINANCIAL REPORT: Financial Report sent in from Mike Janonis. Some discussion related to
Fine Arts expenses followed by a motion made by Jim Uszler to accept the Financial Report
as written, seconded by Teresa VanOpdorp.
CURRENT BUSINESS:
- - Teresa VanOpdorp shared Fine Arts Fest/Blues Fest details to date. Currently 39 artists
registered. Layout the same. NWSRA will be scholarship recipient, amount tba ($500 - $1,000).
NWSRA will be there and have NWSRA student's art on display, not for purchase. Scholarship
will be directed /earmarked for art programming. Discussion and information shared regarding
the Purchase Awards which include both park districts, the Mayor's office and possibly one
business. Last year's judges will be returning. Teresa stated hours of volunteer time needed
(hours of event) and an email will be forthcoming prior to event on Saturday, June 19. Fine Arts
event sub - committee meets on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at Lions Park Rec Center.
- -Jill Friedrichs stated that there are 35 units registered for the July 4 Parade. Anticipated 90+
units by parade day. Jill shared that current year budget cuts impact this event. As of this date,
$13,450 of the $15,000 has been accounted for. Jill has met with Public Works and the
discussion of additional volunteers needed is a priority. Several options of volunteer groups
were mentioned. Jill will be contacting the Committee once needs are known. Other discussion
items included the occasional issue of "gaps" created by some parade units and options.
Theme: Mount Prospect Celebrates Freedom!
- -In Martha Helm's absence, Dawn Fletcher Collins updated that Martha is finishing up with the
engraving work for the 2010 Shining Stars plaque. Also, on Martha's behalf, Dawn reported
that following the Fine Arts event, Martha will be collecting registrations for the Do -lt- Yourself
Sousa event on July 26. Martha will order flags and report volunteer needs either via email or at
the June SEC meeting.
- - Family Bike Ride information provided by Teresa VanOpdorp and Christina Greco. Last
year's success was discussed. This year the cut -off date for early registration will be earlier. The
July and August meetings will detail volunteer and donation needs.
OTHER: Christina Greco volunteered to order tee shirts for SEC. Cost pp would be approx. $5.
The July SEC meeting will be postponed to July 10, due to the holiday /parade weekend.
