RESOLUTION REQUESTING REFUND OF
PART OF RETAILERS OCCUPATION TAX
WHEREAS, the State of Illinois is now levying a two
(2%) per cent Retailers Occupation Tax, all of which funds are
devoted exclusively to defraying the cost of State government,
and
WHEREAS, the sums collected by the State of Illinois
from this source have increased from Forty Million Dollars
(040,000,00000) in 1934, to 000,000,000.00 in 1952, thereby
rendering to the State of Illinois proportionately greater
revenue therefrom than there has been increase in costs, and
WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of Illinois
has enacted in its 68th General Assembly certain laws re-
quiring the expenditure of additional moneys by the municipal-
ities of the State of Illinois without having first provided
adequate and practical sources of additional revenue from which
to obtain these required additional moneys, and
WHEREAS, the Village of Mount Prospect, a municipality
of the State of Illinois, is not hereby objecting to the ends
for which these greater expenditures are required, but is en-
countering great difficulty in obtaining the required additional
revenue by virtue of the failure of the Illino Legislature to
provide adequate or practical sources therefor, and
WHEREAS, Retailers Occupation Tax revenue paid to the
State of Illinois from the Village of Mount Prospect for the
calendar year 1952 was 0101,097.26, which sum, alone, is equal
to 51% of the entire annual budget of said Village.
NOW THEREFORE, 3E IT RESOLVED by the President and
Board of Trustees of the Village of Mount Prospect, Illinois,
that the Governor and the Legislature of the State of Illinois
be requested and urged to extend relief to the municipalities
of the State of Illinois by refunding to said municipalities
One -half Cent (1/2¢) from each Two Cents (2¢) collected from
RetailArs Occupation Tax within the corporate limits of each
municipality.
Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution
be sent to the Governor of the State of Illinois and to the
state senator and state representatives for this senatroial
district.
